Thanks ... Never heard of these .. starting on volume 2 about the new shows, interesting stuff and good plane reading

Michelle Yeoh has signed on as one of the stars: http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/78...trek-discovery

Too bad no one will be watching.

They're sort of walking back the Michelle Yeoh announcement.

Either it's wrong, or Meyer was speaking out of turn.

I'm listening to this on Audible right now. Good Lord. Roddenberry comes off as some kind of benevolent nightmare. But for a Trek fan, this is incredible material (if much of it is well known to Trekkies).

The revelation of how he gave Majel Barrett "one heck of an infection", that I really could have done without. Imagine finding out Grandpa went back to front one time...

This whole thing is a clusterfuck. From the uninspired design of the ship, to losing Bryan Fuller, to the release date being pushed further and further back, to putting this on a platform that few are going to bother watching, and doing ANOTHER GODDAMN STAR TREK PREQUEL rather than something fresh.

It makes me sad for a franchise that has entertained and amazed me to be making all the wrong moves and snuffing out the future of an amazing IP.

Strange.

Michelle Yeoh's verified Facebook page posted the news.

However no major media outlet like Hollywood Reporter or Deadline has reported it yet. The Star Trek news site TrekCore.com pulled the news saying it's unverified.

I have a feeling it's true, but Meyer spoke out of turn (it was during an interview for an old film of his), and CBS probably didn't want it released yet.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery -- from EP Bryan Fuller -- Coming to CBS All-Access in 2017

Doug Jones (The Strain) and Rent alum Anthony Rapp have been cast in Star Trek: Discovery, the upcoming new Star Trek series for CBS All Access, CBS’ live streaming and VOD service, and Michelle Yeoh is confirmed for her role as a Starfleet captain.

Jones will portray Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer and a new alien species to the Star Trek universe. Rapp will play Lt. Stamets, an astromycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Starship Discovery. And as Deadline previously reported, Yeoh will play Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain aboard the Starship Shenzhou. The series does not yet have the lead, but is getting close to casting her.

Star Trek: Discovery will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The series premieres May 2017 on the CBS network with all subsequent episodes available in the U.S. on CBS All Access. The series will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space Channel and CraveTV.

The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers.

So it seems that Bryan Fuller is no longer involved in any capacity currently: http://www.ew.com/article/2016/12/02...y-bryan-fuller

EDIT: Sorry, just to clarify. He's no longer involved going forward, but the stuff he has done will still be part of the show. See next post.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery -- from EP Bryan Fuller -- Coming to CBS All-Access in 2017

Here's the Newsweek article the EW one quotes from:
http://www.newsweek.com/exclusive-br...ar-trek-527540

He still wrote the first two episodes of Discovery and the story arc for the rest of the 13-part first season. I figured he was out for the season when he stepped down, and it makes sense that he's not going to be able to swoop in and take back the showrunner position for season 2; that'd be unfair to the showrunners that took over.

This is going to be nuBattlestar Galactica meets Star Trek: Enterprise with (apparently) some prurient content to throw in for the peanut gallery. You can put money down on it.

I think I'll watch TNG on Blu ray instead.

I still wish they would just do a show that takes place after the last Next Generation film. Not sure why everything has to be in that universes past.

It might interesting to do another time jump, and set another series fifty or one hundred years after the TNG era. Set up some kind of new alien threat, show the Federation in decline, or the Federation being rebuilt after a war or catastrophe.

I suspect that setting all of the post-Voyager series in the past might be due to budgetary concerns. A series set after TNG is going to have expectations that it will be bigger, more alien, and more exotic.

By putting Enterprise and Discovery in the past, they can go smaller.

I don't know. The Kelvin-timeline movies are set in the "past" but look more futuristic than anything from the TNG/DS9/VOY era, and have huge budgets compared to the TNG films.

But Enterprise already had prurient content. There's a reason fans nicknamed the Vulcan "N'pol".

I meant "Game of Thrones" level of prurience and violence. But, Star Trek: Enterprise pointed the way to the franchise's "future" (that takes place in the past).

Is the Discovery going to have a brothel for sexposition?

If CBS thought they could get more viewers...why not?

A long time ago, Star Trek was a bellwether of science fiction entertainment. Now, it just goes along to get along.

I would be very surprised if Discovery ever went beyond PG13 content.

Yeah, that's a huge spoiler for TWD.
