And just because CBS All Acess has it as an exclusive, it doesn't mean it will stay there forever. All programming has different licensing rights and aren't online indefinitely.

Subscribing to individual shows a la carte and also being pressured to subscribe to 6-8 different streaming services is not cheap.

What's to stop AMC, TNT, FX, NBC, FOX from creating individual premium streaming services with exclusive content in the years to come?
Well here's the thing, right now we're in this weird limbo state between classic cable package deals and true a la carte service. We don't actually have true a la carte service because not every channel is available as an individual purchase. But now the companies that own these apps/services want people to sign up for them, even though they may already be paying for the channel it's associated with in a cable or satellite package, so we're seeing exclusive content going to streaming, and that's really obnoxious. Also obnoxious is the idea of paying for a streaming service and still getting commercials. Hulu has commercials (although thankfully you can now pay for a commercial-free tier), but also had shows from lots of different content providers for a rate that wasn't much higher than CBS is trying to charge just for its single channel's worth of shows.

I think we're going to see content providers try all sorts of different models and gimmicks before the market sorts itself out.

That seems weird to me, since the rights to Star Trek: TOS are with CBS, so how can they not be allowed to make references to it?

The prime universe is the one in which Enterprise, TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager take place.

Sort of wish this was going to Showtime so they could do what they wanted, CBS shows are way too similar for CBS to not have a hand in that.

God, man, and I was just staring to like you . The "Prime" universe is the main one in which every canonical Star Trek series took place prior to the Abrams reboot. The Abrams reboot is an "alternate reality." The universe where everyone, including Spock, is evil called the Mirror Universe. I am tremendously disappointed in you, man .

Count me as another that ideally would like this series to be a next generation from the events of The Next Generation following the adventures of a new Enterprise and its crew. Either that or the Worf or Riker spinoffs would be cool, but I doubt either of those will ever happen.

I am also concerned that they will do what everyone is fearful of, setting this in the recent alternate universe. I can see the bulb over Kurtzman's head, lighting up at the thought of introducing a new crew on the TV show and having them take over the movie universe when the current movie cast is done.

Worf and Riker start a private detective agency. At the end of the series they reveal it was all a holodeck simulation.

As for Prime universe versus Abramsverse, I don't care as long as the show is good. I'd prefer Prime universe since we have the movies to explore the Abramsverse, but if it's good, it's good.

Not really expecting much from this project.

Would be nice if they get Riker back.

I'm down for that. The Titan books are pretty decent and following the further adventures of Riker could be cool. Although I think if they went that route it'd probably work better as a more limited run series. The only bad thing is if they wanted to do a Riker based spinoff it should have happened sooner. It can still work but I think having it set a few years after The Next Generation with him still in his prime would have worked better. The Worf series I was never as sold on but mainly liked it for the idea of bringing back a familiar character.

As far as the Prime Universe versus Abramsverse I'd much prefer if things were kept in Prime. I don't love the Abrams films enough that I want them to be the basis for Trek going forward personally.

I wish this is what they would do with the Abrams movies - it was all a TNG holodeck simulation.

Would prefer the Prime Universe, but will watch whatever.

As for the episodes, i'm sure that each one will be on youtube within hours of becoming available.

This is Star Trek afterall. Someone will upload them.

Seems like nobody has actually seen any test shots whatsoever.

Wait, is everyone in the Mirror Universe evil, or just the good guys? If it was a true reflection, wouldn't there be a bunch of friendly Klingons and Borg? Are evil Prime people double evil in the Mirror Universe?

If so, that seems like a pretty poor mirror.

The pics are a little bit old, because as it turns out they've been working on this thing for a while. So don't look for anything recent.

Well at least they are not bullshitting about why they are using Trek

...knowing the loyalty of Star Trek fans, this will boost it… There’s about a billion channels out there and because of Star Trek, people will know what All Access is about.”

Too bad they didn't choose to bolster their Showtime channel with it. I already subscribe to it.
