Rev. Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) takes his vegetative wife, Mary (Janel Moloney), outside Miracle to seek answers about her condition, but their lives take a dangerous detour when he is barred from returning to town. Racing to get her back into Miracle, he struggles to keep Mary safe from desperate tourists squatting just outside the town's gates.

Written by Damon Lindelof & Jacqueline Hoyt; directed by Nicole Kassell.

Thoughts...

1. Just seems wrong to see Doctor Who's ding-dong flopping around.

2. So do we think Mary really did wake up, or did Matt imagine it?

3. Lot of religious imagery here... "No room at the inn for a guy and his miraculously pregnant wife Mary," Matt gets (sort of) crucified.

And we are back to presenting numerous mysteries which will never be solved. Sigh.

I watched the first four episodes of this season on Friday and then watched this one last night. I think the Evie stuff won't be solved. With Matt and Mary, I think the mystery will be solved. I'm guessing Mary will wake up to give birth.

Re: The Leftovers (S2E05) -- "No Room at the Inn" -- 11/1/15

Since they came out and said that they weren't going to resolve the 'mystery' of the disappearances, I am, so far, fine with them not giving answers to everything.

This, more than "Lost," seems to be about how people are reacting to the unknowable, and we, the audience, are along for the ride.

"Lost" set itself up as a genre program and constantly teased 'answers' were forthcoming but gave few, and most of the ones they gave weren't satisfying.

"The Leftovers" seems more like the kind of character study that "Lost," in its latter seasons, was trying to pass itself off as.

Agreed. And I think part of Lost's problem was being on network TV, so they had to advertise "answers."

Like I said last week, I'm loving this, but don't expect answers.

What was Matt yelling while in the drain pipe before they got swept out by the water? I heard him saying something about the bolt cutters, but couldn't make out the rest. Was it just that he was realizing he was scammed?

I think he was just indicating that it was tough to cut and he was re-assuring Mary that he'll get it cut, he "just needed to..." and then I think he fell and dropped the bolt cutters and everything went tits up.

Why could be not call the preacher? Did I miss that part?
And I can't wait for his answers from the angry neighbor.

Re: The Leftovers (S2E05) -- "No Room at the Inn" -- 11/1/15

Matt had a hell of a day.

At first I was thinking, "crap, we're not going to get any progress on Kevin and Nora's story" but then Matt's day turned out pretty interesting.

So I guess he's going to try to turn the people in the camp into his flock?

Took me a minute to recognize Brett Butler. WTF was up with 'Brian'?

Matt Jamison is one of my most favorite characters currently on TV.
