The Vampire Diaries (The CW) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/8/15
"Day One of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give or Take" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, DLV) (HDTV)
LIFE WITHOUT ELENA - After a twisted plan left the life of his girlfriend Elena linked to that of his best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is forced to navigate his new reality without the love of his life. A newly empowered Bonnie has decided that she will be Damon's moral compass and keeps a close eye on him as he, in turn, cautiously keeps tabs on Alaric (Matt Davis), following the loss of his fiancée Jo. Meanwhile, as he waits for Caroline (Candice King) to sort out her emotions, Stefan (Paul Wesley) takes an active role in protecting the town from Lily (guest star Annie Wersching) and her family of Heretics, who have wasted no time wreaking havoc in Mystic Falls. Elsewhere, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) struggles to find his place in Lily's new life, and is quickly forced to decide where his true loyalties lie. Finally, with the stakes higher than ever, Matt (Zach Roerig), who has recently completed his deputy training program, teams up with Stefan and Caroline to put a stop to the Heretics, but an unexpected turn of events leaves one of them in a dangerous position. Pascal Verschooris directed the episode written by Caroline Dries (#701). Original airdate 10/8/2015.

22 episode 7th season
Nina Dobrev (Elena) left the show at the end of season 6
The writers have said that season 7 will focus much more on Stefan and Damon.

Good riddance to Elena. The whole triangle between her, Stefan, and Damon had ran dry. Elena had went full circle and ended up becoming rather annoying. Good to see that the Salvatorre Brothers will get back to just that. I just hope this doesn't play out like the brotherhood bond of Sam and Dean Winchester over on CW's Supernatural.
Matt is pretty much the only regular human on the cast... If he dies then what? lol

Thought it was a pretty good start to season 7.
Lily and the heretics seem like good antagonists.
The evacuation after the graduation massacre explains why Mystic Falls was a ghost town in that flash forward with Matt from last season's finale.
I'm presuming the 3 years in the future scene with Stefan and Damon is probably in the same time frame.
Loved Caroline in the opener. I think she more than makes up for the loss of Elena. Now she will have a chance to do more now that Elena is gone.

Re: The Vampire Diaries (The CW) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/8/15
Elena was way over used so I'm glad she is gone. The only problem I see now is that they added a large number of people to the cast. I wanted more time with the original cast. The originals on this show not the The Originals tv show. hmmmm but I guess some of those people were originally on this show. You know what I mean.
Predictions
Bonnie and Damon are going get together.
All the new magic using vamps will be dead by the end of the season.
Caroline and Stefan will breakup and then get back together.
Matt will be turned into a vampire or something else.
Alaric is going to be breaking bad and might return to being a super vampire.
Momma Vampire will be locked back up.
Bonnie is the person hunting Stefan and Damon in the future.

Agree, surprisingly good.
Really, my guess is Alaric brings Joe back somehow and she's super good/vampire hunter. Would make sense with the branding on Stephan's chest that matches the one on the heretic's neck. I believe it's probably some Gemini coven thing.

The season seems to be a bit more track this year. I do find it a little odd how everyone that was locked away since the 1900's seem a bit modern with how they handle themselves.
Even though I like some of the vampires I cannot really say this entire universe would be better if they were all either wiped out at the end or became human again. This and originals treat humans like cheap snacks.

The heretics are great compared to the past few sets of villains we've gotten. The one with the thing for Stefan could probably carry her own show.
The future teasers don't do much for me but I am mostly ignoring them. I get the feeling the writers don't think the show will still be on the air by then so why worry what they show in the future.

I'm hoping we get a time jump this season to reach that timeline.

So Rick is engaged to Caroline in three years and Bonnie has fallen in love with Lorenzo? I'm glad the show probably won't be around that long since I think those are plot points mostly done for shock value in these flash forwards.
I think the good Vampire Diaries is officially back this season. Removing Elena seems to have freed up the show to move beyond what had become the insipid Damon and Elena romance. Though the pregnancy twist revealed at the end of last night's episode was laughable.

Re: The Vampire Diaries (The CW) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/8/15
Over all I'm kind of shocked how well this season has turned out as far as the story lines goes. Sure it's not all that different from past seasons outside Elena being gone. Show's main core story lines have always been about the brothers looking to kill someone off or someone looking to kill them.
the plan of sealing off the town at the end of last season was sooo stupid I did not think it would work on any level. I thought they would just have the brothers walking around an empty town for 8 eps and cancel the show.
that being said, the future time jumps seem a little out of place. Maybe the show needs to commit to them a little more or something.

The Vampire Diaries is getting bumped to Friday nights in January. That is so Legends of Tomorrow can take over Thursdays. What was once the CW's flagship show has fallen from its once lofty heights. A shame because I've really enjoyed this season.

The Originals is also moving to Friday, so they will still be back to back.
There is still a chance The Vampire Diaries gets 1 more season for them to properly promote it as a farewell season and bring back Dobrev for the series finale. The show will have 150+ episodes in the can after season 7. The show is still a moneymaker for WB and The CW.

I think VD may come back for one more season. The Originals is only coming back for another season if WB basically cuts their licensing fee to nothing.

Re: The Vampire Diaries (The CW) -- Season 7 Thread -- Premieres 10/8/15
I'm not sure how many are still watching this show but not a bad mid-season cliff hanger. None of that one character only sort of cliff hanger for this show!
Vampire Diaries kind of knows it's heading into a wrap up season so they kidnap this character and then another. Hey and lets do the classic Vampire Diaries move of throwing a few people into some sort of mystical -prison dimension- too!
Just to make sure everyone catches some crap.
as for the move to Friday night, if the show was in season 2 or whatever it might bother me a bit more. Being Friday night is where shows go to die. Yet Vampire Diaries is not going to pull off another 5+ seasons anyways.

Loved the new episode from Friday. Probably the best episode in a long time.
Very funny take on Groundhog Day with Damon.
at Damon getting fed up, deserting and throwing a grenade at the camp.
