SoA was fine for what it was... but nobody cares about the Mayans... nobody. I'm out.

Antonio Jaramillo (“Savages”) and Richard Cabral (“American Crime”) have joined the cast of “Mayans MC,” Kurt Sutter’s “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff pilot for FX.
Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller’s death, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of Ezekiel ‘EZ’ Reyes (JD Pardo), a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border.
Jaramillo will play club VP Michael ‘Riz’ Ariza, and Cabral will play Johnny ‘El Coco’ Cruz, a member and weapons specialist.
The pair join the previously announced Edward James Olmos, John Ortiz and Clayton Cardenas.

The Pilot is being completely re-shot and partially recast. Plus, they hired a new director. Original Pilot was co-written and directed by Kurt Sutter.
Sutter's cut must have really sucked if FX is scrapping it and asking for a re-shoot.

When will FX learn. This could have been seen coming from a mile away had you watch his output over the past 6 years or so.

re: Mayans MC (Sons of Anarchy spinoff) ordered to series
FX is moving full steam ahead with Mayans MC, officially ordering the long-in-the-works Sons of Anarchy spinoff to series with a 10-episode order.
As TVLine reported back in July, the original Mayans MC pilot, which was shot last winter, was scrapped for creative reasons. Norberto Barba (The Bridge, Preacher, The Path) was brought in direct a new pilot. Several roles were recast and a handful of new characters were added.
“Kurt Sutter is a master storyteller and Mayans MC has the raw energy and intensity that are hallmarks of his signature style,” said FX president Nick Grad in a statement. “Thanks to Kurt, co-creator Elgin James and this amazing cast, Mayans MC builds on the legacy of Sons of Anarchy, taking it in a thrilling new direction that we can’t wait for the world to see.”
Mayans MC is set in a post Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes (Revolution‘s JD Pardo, pictured above) fresh out of prison, is a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American Dream within his grasp.
The cast also includes Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), Sarah Bolger (Once Upon a Time), Richard Cabral (American Crime) and Michael Irby (The Unit).
Mayans MC will premiere later this year.

Sepinwall review
This isn’t going to help his chances of Sutter ever talking to him again.
He mentions the premiere is 67 minutes, commercial free,

Re: Mayans MC (Sons of Anarchy spinoff) ordered to series
I watched the Pilot late last night on FX Plus. It's FX's premium streaming service that has all their shows. They posted the Pilot on Friday. There is currently a 7-day free trial.
Anyways, I thought it was decent. I read Sepinwall's review and wasn't as disappointed as him. As a fan of the original show, it had some of the style and characteristics of the original. I'd give it between a B and B-.
I am curious how bad Kurt Sutter's original Pilot was since it was completely re-shot and re-cast for this version.
There is a quick cameo of a SOA original:
Basically the story follows the Mayans working with the cartel through the eyes of "EZ" who is their new prospect. He was once an aspiring college student at Stanford, but something in his past led him to a darker road.
Michael Irby is the leader of this charter of the Mayans. It's near the Southern California/Mexico border. The Mayans charter featured in Sons was Northern California/Oakland.
I won't spoil the reveal about it, but it's a little thin and they don't really delve into it too much.
There is a lot of violence and someone's arm gets hacked off. Unlike Sons, they actually using F bombs in this one.
SAMCRO does make an appearance in the episode. It's a different charter and is led by:
and yes the Pilot runs 67 minutes commercial free. FX is slotting it to run 97 minutes tomorrow with commercials.
