Kind of a let down, but I didn't hate it.

Was I seeing things, or did the zombie drug dealer bite the mom in the arm?

I saw that too. I assumed she's going to turn next episode. And then it looks like she's in the rest of the season. So I have no idea what happened there.

I thought she didn't get bit (zombie was pushed away in time). I guess we'll see.

6 episode season is easy to commit to so I'll stick with this. Like some of you, I'm glad to see the show focus on the buildup of the apocalypse, rather than immediately begin in the post-apocalyptic world.

To be honest, i'm pretty sure that's the least in terms of weapons that the school has seen. It is East L.A.

If I didn't know the ultimate theme of the show and tuned in after the first five minutes I would have found myself watching an hour of after school special (out of 90 minutes!) and might have given up before they got to the point. I trust the creators to get things moving (and no I am not talking about hordes of walkers every episode). But if it sticks to more of the same I'm afraid there isn't enough milk in the Walking Dead teat to keep the droves of people who tuned in around for very long. Nobody is going to give a crap if the guy reconnects with his estranged son or other such BS unless it develops organically over time. This just felt forced and clumsy and came off amateurish.

That being said, I see a lot of potential in the series and am definitely willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for now. For instance, I think they handled the "onset" pretty well, and the acting wasn't too bad for what they were given. Also, perhaps they are smarter than I am giving them credit for and the after school special episode was intentional, as a means to contrast with the utter chaos and societal breakdown to come, as in "Remember last week when I was all...and you were all...and now we are being eaten alive?"

The preview looked good, lots of new characters being added it seems, so I'm hopeful.

Seeing the beginning of the Dead Rising is pretty interesting. I honestly don't think they'll fuck that up.

Clearly from the discussion they were having the government had been spreading disinformation about the outbreak (flu shots, etc). So it sort of makes sense that the internet would be the only source of "real" information.

Add in that it seems like officials like cops and doctors have strict orders to say little to nothing, but to tackle the dead in a specific manner.

Why they just didn't keep the old dude who was clearly going to die in the basement is beyond me.

Maybe they don't know how Zombies are made yet or the information hasn't filtered down to the lowest levels? I don't think we'll ever truly find that out.

I'm just annoyed that they took the production to Vancouver after the pilot and did basic pick up shots of actual Los Angeles for the rest of the season.

What the fuck, man. I get that it saves them on their budget. But that's some fucked up shit.

The pilot suck. The cast is bad so far. It was so boring and slow. If the next couple of episodes don't progress, I am done. I hope they go into the gov cover up and CDA (?) trying to figure out what is going on.

Based on some of what I saw during the Ebola concerns this past year, I would buy it if you said the information hadn't "trickled down" yet.

What's that all aboot? Will the zombies actually be craving Tim Hortons rather than brains? (Reveal: spoiled poutine actually caused the zombie apocalypse.)

Since we know the zombies won't be called walkers, will they be called hosers?

I wonder if your healthcare system would handle the epidemic better than ours?

I'm wondering if the addition of Ruben Blades and his family were always planned or if they figured out filming the pilot that things weren't working and quickly wrote those characters in?

You might be on to something. According to this article, Blades signed on to the show as a regular in late May.

The Pilot was reportedly filmed circa January/February. 3 months after the Pilot was filmed is plenty of time to re-work storylines.

Seems normal for a lot of productions.

He's annoyed because that takes away LA-based production jobs. I assume Jackskeleton has some kind of involvement in the industry. No casual fan would care about stuff like that.

That I do. Though I'm looking to "Retire" from the industry within the next year or two depending on if the production I'm on keeps on rolling.

It's also a bit annoying because of The Walking Dead was based in Atlanta and brags about it being filmed there. Given, it just must be a happy accident that their source material location has a lot of tax incentives for filming.

But on another note, the one saving grace that the pilot did have that I enjoyed, was being able to recognize the locations so easily. So when you tell me that this takes place in Los Angeles, I can believe it. A bit early to tell given the lack of seeing anything more, but if it becomes like those shows that says it's in a specific location and you can tell it's not, it does take away a lot of the enjoyment of the show for me.

At that point, why even make it set in Los Angeles if you're not going to go full tilt and have it filmed there?

How much time has passed on the original show since the pilot, anyway?
The end of last season on TWD was the 547th day since the zombie apocalypse began. (Rick was in a coma until day 59.)

So, watched the pilot last night. I'll give it a shot and watch a few more episodes because I like the original so much, but man was that boring. Uninteresting characters, bad acting, cliches everywhere. They should have started dropping in hints about what was going on much earlier in the story, and accelerated the drama. And man oh man if they spend all their time on the damn junkie kid....who cares.

multi-tasked until the last 5 minutes, those were great.
