Re: The Last Ship (S2E05) -- "Achilles" -- 7/12/15
Cool episode.
Nice change of pace from last week. I liked that it was more of a strategy driven battle between the Nathan James and the sub with the Briitish Mercenaries. Some pretty intense scenes, especially when they discovered the plan to blow up the labs and then the missile attack.
Season 2 has been really fun so far. They've done a good job not relying solely on the virus storyline.

Doesn't the running of a nuclear sub take a lot of highly trained individuals?
Seems kind of strange that they were able to find so many people ready to step in when the crew died.
The way they were bickering amongst themselves I can't see them remaining an effective crew for long.

Cool episode. From what I've read the sub capabilities (Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawks) ring true. The discussion of ranges, at times, seemed wonky vs. the action (40 miles away and then firing torpedoes at each other?).

If 5% of the population are immune, shouldn't more military vessels still be in operation?

I was questioning that also. Since the US has ships all over the world, why hasn't the Nathan James tried contacting any surviving ships? Unless they did and I totally missed it.

at the Secretary of Housing and Urban development being named President by some kook Irish mercenary.
And do we know for a fact that the Secretary of Health and Human services is dead?
Decent episode overall.

Badass episode tonight. Lots of action and great kills.
That fight scene in the kitchen with Chandler, Burk and Bivas was pretty cool. The stabbings were awesome.

Given the 1-5% survival rate, perhaps we'll see other USN ships with patchwork crews? (Waiting for the giant brawl on the sub to breakout. )

Was kind of funny how quickly they "turned" the President, but then again, in a short season, you can't have him moping around for episodes about being kidnapped.
I like how these mercs are outsmarting the Navy crew, by using radio broadcasts to fight them. Guerrilla tactics.

He's not really turned, he's a double agent working for the infected. Would make sense anyways.

As the other officers intimated, it probably makes little difference. The political climate has changed so much in the world post-holocaust only people like the Captain (professional soldiers) need someone to look up to. The the rest of the civilian populace they probably couldn't give a shit who's President.

Not the most exciting episode, but it had some good moments. I enjoyed learning about the new POTUS and the tragedy he experienced before he met the Irish Mercs.
I guess coming off last week's action packed episode, this was more character based so we could learn who this new POTUS was.

If the POTUS didn't really turn, wouldn't he be working for the immune, not the infected?
Anyway, given the limited time the show could spend on it, I was able to buy him turning over the course of two days given the tragedy he went through, and the multiple lies that were told to him by the immune, to turn him in the first place.
