Hannibal (S3E05) -- "Contorno" -- 7/2/15

THE SEARCH FOR HANNIBAL INTENSIFIES -- JOE ANDERSON AND MIA MAESTRO GUEST STAR -- Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) and Inspector Pazzi (guest star Fortunato Cerlino) search for clues that will lead them closer to Hannibal Lecter's (Mads Mikkelsen) location in Florence, but the promise of riches offered by Mason Verger (guest star Joe Anderson) threatens to corrupt Pazzi's quest for redemption. Meanwhile, Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Chiyoh (Tao Okamoto) travel to Florence, both on a mission to find Hannibal, but at odds over the desired outcome. Elsewhere, as Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) continues to work with Mason Verger she grows concerned for the safety of all involved. Gillian Anderson also stars. TV-14 V

Still Cancelled. The news isn't getting better. Gaumont TV released the cast from their contracts. Mads and Hugh Dancy are now free to look for new jobs. But, they are open to returning.

Fucking Jack. That was satisfying, but also maddening. Beat Hannibal's ass, but cuff him to something!

If this is the end of the show, I'm really satisfied with how quick things are moving. After some quiet eps, it feels like this ep put rubber to the road.

Maybe if NBC promo'd this better, and showed it half as much love as it does showing like 8 hours of AGT reruns a week, it would still be alive

They try, it's just a tough show to find an audience for. They gave it 3 seasons of miserable ratings, so at least they're doing better than Fox, ABC and CBS.

Fuck. Any chance Netflix would pick up this show like they did for The Killing?

No chance Netflix picks it up because Amazon owns the exclusive streaming rights. Bryan Fuller already addressed that. Even Amazon is iffy on picking it.

Fuller said the problem with trying to get another network to pick it up is that they will expect a discount on the licensing fee and production costs because if it wasn't good enough for NBC, then why should they pay what they paid.

Finally! At the beginning of the episode, when they showed YET ANOTHER lingering extreme close-up of those fucking snails, I thought "Here we go again--another episode that's a visual feast but not much happens." Glad to be proven wrong.

Its been a while since I read "Hannibal" (which I was surprised when I just didn't like it)), but Pazzi is from the first half of the book, but they've also mixed in elements of "Hannibal Rising" and to my mind, Gillian Anderson's Doctor sort of fills the role Clarice Starling ends up playing at the end of "Hannibal" (which they changed for the movie). Of course, if I'm remembering it wrong here I'll just say I read "Hannibal" when it was new in hardback, -that's how much I was looking forward to it, -and I've never read another of the author's books since (which tells you how disappointed I was).

It's following the book. I remember reading the entire Pazzi thing in the book years ago. The Verger bounty plotline was also there in the book.

I'm glad that there was finally an episode with some action to it. I'd feel sorry for Pazzi but it was really dumb to turn your back on Hannibal when you know what he is capable of.

Re: Hannibal (S3E05) -- "Contorno" -- 7/2/15

The allure of money makes people do stupid things. I'm kinda glad Pazzis is gone for no other reason than I found him really hard to understand. Whiskey rasp to his voice on top of that thick accent was just too much for me.

I really don't know what to make of that woman who was a "student" (I guess) of Hannibal's and who is traveling with Will.

Passed by Amazon. Netflix already said no. Streaming options are dead. Things are looking grim.

Re: Hannibal (S3E05) -- "Contorno" -- 7/2/15

I feel like the biggest mistep this show made was going with Amazon streaming instead of Netflix after season one. I remember reading how much the viewership for Breaking Bad was helped by being offered on Netflix, and I can't imagine a scenario where Hannibal wouldn't have been helped in some way by being on Netflix instead of Amazon streaming.

I was listening to a podcast talk about the cancellation, and one of the hosts said that essentially we got the whole premise of the show. We got the prequel to, and Red Dragon. I would have loved to see the entirety of Fuller's vision for this world, but if this is going to be the end I think I will be satisfied with what we're getting.

I just hope the season finale acts as a decent series finale.

Re: Hannibal (S3E05) -- "Contorno" -- 7/2/15

I guess all that talk of this having a huge international following means nothing if they can't get a US based network or service to play ball. Oh well. Seems like we will at least see this through the end of the established content they had rights to anyway.

Only things that bugged me in this last episode is the weird effect they used for the dialogue scenes on the train and Jack pushing Hannibal out a window he knew had a rope and body he could use to get away.

Watching that fight scene I just kept thinking Morpheus is back!

Sounds like this will be it then. Given all the talk over recent months it seemed like it would be inevitable another outlet would pick it up. Perhaps if they turned the show into an unfunny comedy.

That is a fucking shame. Isn't this show supposedly notoriously cheap to produce desipite how beautiful it looks? How could anyone expect to get it even cheaper when they are already stretching every dollar as it is?

It's not cheap, it just didn't cost NBC much, since much of the costs were paid for by overseas companies.
