Barbie with a flashlight in the opening scene while he is apparently bathed in bright light. The show hasn't missed a beat.

That was.............weird.
At first I was thinking, well, this is boring then it picked up a little. The dome is really not making any sense.

I had no idea this was even on last night. Was it on Thursday nights last season?
I guess I'll catch up over the weekend. Is it still laughably bad?

Re: Under the Dome (CBS) -- Season 3 Thread -- Premieres 6/25/15
The magical mystery tour that is Under The Dome has returned! CBS must have wanted to dump this series, airing two episodes on a very competitive night as its opener. I wouldn't expect it to come back for a fourth season. I have no idea how I will cope if it comes to that point.
Joe apparently took acting lessons since last season aired. These episodes didn't have enough Julia or Barbie in them. Melanie just doesn't make much of a menacing villain. I was hoping Big Jim was going to take her out with his shotgun.
I don't want to upset anyone but I think they got new, better writers since last season. Stretches of these episodes actually made sense. Only Junior's hilarious battles with swarms of butterflies looked goofy enough to fit in the series we all know and love.

Despite being a packed night, it's one of the lowest rated Thursday nights I can remember. The highest demo rating of the night was a 2.0 for Big Brother, the next highest was a 1.3 (Dateline and Under the Dome 2 episode average)

For anyone needing to have their Dome history refreshed for the new season, this is well worth a read:
The 22 Dumbest Things Under the Dome Has Done
And here is the season 3 premier review. As always, it is about a thousand times more entertaining than the actual episode:

Be aware that many of the comments after the articles are as good or better than the articles themselves.

This really needs to be the last season, it's not really a story that needs to be dragged out for many seasons. Still silly how they act like these people have fallen in love and known each other for so long..........or three weeks. Okay.........wrap it up.

How about this to extend the series. Big Jim, Junior, Barbie and Julia crash the Dome on an island that may or may not be Purgatory. We get flashbacks to their lives before the Dome.

Watched the 2 hour premiere earlier today
Yeah I didn't fall for that fake out with the group being out of the dome. It was a dead giveaway when they jumped back to Julia and Junior being alive and still trying to locate them.
Marg Helgenberger being on the show might be interesting. She's at least a decent actress. At first I thought Christine was simply a figment of their imagination, but at the end when she appeared out of the cocoon along with Eva that sort of threw me. I mean where the hell did they come from? Ok forget it, this show won't have any logic to it.

Between reading all of your comments, checking out the posted links, and listening this morning to Extra Hot Great's vicious takedown of the premiere, I'm getting way more enjoyment out of this show than I would have had I actually watched it and not bailed after trudging through the first season. You're doing the Lord's work. Bless you.
I swear, this show may be the greatest failed adaptation that I've ever experienced. Such a great book turned into... this?

It's true there wasn't as much outright wacky stuff found in the premiere. Some of the better actors are now hamming things up, I think they realize what kind of show they are on now.

This episode was Dometastic! Can Barbie deal with his girlfriend from inside the matrix, or will he go with Julia that he's known for about three weeks?

I'm loving Big Jim, super-spy and dog-lover and soon to be camper (though the preview suggests he comes right back?).

Gems like this exchange are why I am still watching this show:
Barbie: The dome was gone and we were free. The outside world...somehow it seemed more beautiful, more vibrant.
Julia: Where was I?
Barbie: You were dead.

Marg sure was showing off her fucked up lizard lip at the end of this last episode. Plastic surgery strikes another one. Her voiceover made me feel like I was watching Desperate Housewives.

I miss all the wackbat science talk from last season. I am also concerned they are breaking up Joe and Norrie. Joe looks like another Junior in the making.
