Murder in the First (TNT) -- Series Discussion Thread
Series Summary:
TNT will take viewers deep inside a complex homicide investigation in Murder in the First, a powerful new crime drama co-created by Emmy(R)-winner Steven Bochco and newcomer Eric Lodal. Taye Diggs (Private Practice) and Kathleen Robertson (Boss) star in the series, which will follow a single murder investigation across an entire season. Also starring are Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Mimi Kirkland (Safe Haven), Raphael Sbarge (Once Upon a Time), Lombardo Boyar (The Bernie Mac Show), Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-0), Bess Rous (What Just Happened), Nicole Ari Parker (Revolution), Currie Graham (Raising the Bar), Richard Schiff (The West Wing), James Cromwell (Babe, L.A. Confidential) and Steven Weber (Dallas, Wings). The series follows homicide detectives Terry English (Diggs) and Hildy Mulligan (Robertson) as they investigate two seemingly unrelated murders. The mystery deepens, however, when they find both murders have a common denominator in a Silicon Valley wunderkind (Felton). Murder in the First is being produced by TNT Originals, with Bochco and Lodal serving as executive producers.

But Terry's ability to focus is troubled as his wife battles stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Just as the inspectors begin closing in on the case, Blunt's beautiful flight attendant is found dead.

Good cast and it's from Steven Bochco. Should be an entertaining 10 hours. I already watch Major Crimes on TNT, so I'll definitely watch this.

I'll be tuning in to check out the Pilot. Sounds interesting enough for a summer show.

Just finished watching it. Pilots do start off slow, this picked up more steam in the last fifteen minutes. The guy playing Blunt has creepy eyes. I hated the over the top moment with Taye Diggs' character and the suspect. I will keep tuning in and like Noonan said sounds interesting for a summer show.

It was decent. Definitely watchable, but not groundbreaking. Started out kind of slow, but then it picked up near the end. It got interesting when the hook of the murder mystery (the blonde flight attendant) was revealed towards the end. The San Francisco setting was cool and I'm glad they shot the entire Pilot there. Probably unlikely the remainder of the season was shot there due to costs.
Man, that Blunt guy was a major douche. If he's the #1 suspect for the season, they did a great job casting a really annoying little shit.
I'm guessing that English's wife is dead based on his reaction from that phone call. I'm glad they aren't going to linger on that.
I think Diggs and Robertson will get more comfortable playing these characters in the coming weeks. I liked Robertson's character Mulligan. It's good that this is airing during the summer. I could easily see a show like this getting lost in the crowded Fall/Spring TV seasons. At least this show has a strong creative team behind it and seems to have a decent supporting cast.

I liked it, though I think I know who the killer is already. Also glad they did not linger on the wife, that would get tedious. Will continue.

Was that Skinny Pete (from Breaking Bad) as the drug dealer that got beat down by the Taye Diggs character?

It was a decent pilot that felt a bit generic at times. But the cast is pretty good. There's no way that Draco Malfoy is guilty. They went way out of their way to make him look guilty so I'm going to guess that
is the killer.

I liked it. A Murder One redux is fine by me, though the internet billionaire is pretty over the top douchey.
I have to watch Murder One again at some point -- have had the S1 DVD for years but never re-watched it.

I was confused when Mulligan dressed up all slutty and went on that "date" with Blunt. But, then she made out with him and got his DNA from his spit.
But is it even possible to obtain viable DNA from spit mixed with her own DNA? It's not like she blew him and sucked out his semen. I guess that would have been on Cinemax, not TNT.
Plus the DNA would not even be usable in court as it was obtained illegally.

I watched this earlier. The main storylines involving the murders are progressing fine. The part with English's sister-in-law wasn't needed. I don't think Blunt will be guility of the murders, but I think he will go down for other illegal activity. I can see the guy from episode 1 who was trying to sue Blunt, ending up on the suspect list.

I don't understand why they had to go to all these lengths to get a dna sample. I would think that they could get a warrant for all three of them.

This episode was rather disappointing with the DNA obsession and the way she went about getting it.

That was an intense episode.
The dude beating the shit out of his wife was tough to watch.
to Mulligan blasting his ass. That is such BS with Police policy (Yes, I know it's how things work) how she has to be investigated by IA and put on leave. I mean shit, the guy was coming at her with a knife.
Not surprising that little shit brain gets arrested since he was revealed to be the father of the murder victim's unborn kid. But, we all know that's a Red Herring.
The Indian real estate girl who was kind of flirting with English while showing him places looked familiar. She looked like the girl from Greek and most recently on Revenge.

I just watched this episode. It was pretty good and I like the Mulligan subplot with the kid and the mom, except for the BS policy like DJariya mentioned. I wasn't surprised about the revelation about Steven Webber's character having a past affair with the murder victim.

I find the side stories annoying.
at the hand-wringing over the police policy. There ain't enough such "policy" if you ask me. She got a paid vacation.

Episode 3 was probably the best of the season. Blunt getting arrested for the murder is so obviously a Red Herring.

I'm enjoying this one quite a bit so far. Even got my gf hooked on it with last week's episode. Looking forward to see where they take it.
