Re: Louie (FX) - Season 5 Discussion Thread - Premieres 4/9/15

I love the dichotomies of this show. Especially this episode that was bookended by a sweet moment with his daughter where he mistakenly thought she wasn't paying attention to the play when in fact she was devouring my information about it, to the very end where Bob Kelly was telling him that yogurt came from "a cow's pussy".

He does it brilliantly without it seeming forced.

Who were those actors in the beginning of the episode ?

It was cool seeing a Broadway play on TV.

Loved the kids names... Afghanistan and TranquilliTEA.

I guessed his brother was in jail for banging a hooker... close enough.

The show always makes me hungry.

Re: Louie (FX) - Season 5 Discussion Thread - Premieres 4/9/15

Good episode again. I enjoyed grouchy Louie on the road. The stuff with his manager who's way younger is pretty funny but throws me off a bit because the guy looks like a teenager or something. Felt bad a bit for Mike the driver, but he seemed to not really get the hint that Louie didn't want to talk or hang out. I get why he would be hurt but Louie made good points as to why he didn't feel like being social too. The cinnamon roll place in the airport being called Jizzy Buns Also liked the stuff with the airport worker who was trying to help him find his bag and the way the episode ended how it started with him packing his new bag.

Re: Louie (FX) - Season 5 Discussion Thread - Premieres 4/9/15

It's amazing yet creepy how much Louie has aged since the show started and his manager literally looks EXACTLY the same. Louie's gone from 40 to nearly 50 and his manager has gone from 21 to 21 and 1/2.

And yeah, I loved the bit with the driver because I knew exactly what was going to happen. "I don't mean to be rude but" will get you the exact same result no matter what you say.

Haven't watched this yet, but saw it was part 1 of something. Is next Thursday already the season finale?

There were only eight episodes this season, so that's probably why it felt faster than normal.

Yeah it's been a great season but eight episodes is short.

Don't forget the new Louis C stand up special is next Thur May 28.

It was good but is a road trip really that bad?

At least he is not working in a mine or doing construction.

A comedians lifestyle where you can almost set your own hours and sleep in during the day is something most people would envy.

I loved how he was contemplating ordering the bun with the syrup drank straight from the spigot - and then the disappointment when he found out she was joking.

Another episode with a dead guy laying near Louie - this time at the airport and with someone trying to wake him up.

At least a miner or a construction worker gets to punch out at the end of the day and go home. Being "on the road" is essentially being at work 24 hours a day.

An explanation (well sorta) why season 5 is only 8 episodes.

To make a long story short, Louis CK told FX he was going to shoot season 5 in the Fall meaning a long delay. But, he changed his mind and decided to shoot last winter, however FX already allocated most of their budget to other shows. So, they got limited money to shoot season 5.

Tonight is the season 5 finale.

Re: Louie (FX) - Season 5 Discussion Thread - Premieres 4/9/15

Interesting finale. Some weird parts but it was an overall good episode. To me the comedy club owner and his daughter were being assholes more than Louie was. He could have been nicer to Kenny who it just seemed like was trying to have fun but Louie wasn't having it. I enjoyed the stuff with Kenny for the most part, particularly the part towards the end when they were talking and Louie broke down crying admitting he loved fart jokes. The part where Kenny was trying to take an upper decker and fell and died was bizarre. I didn't see that coming at all. Not looking forward to the long wait until season six.

The finale was pretty depressing.

I wonder if that is Jim Florentines real act?

At first I thought he was dressing up as Bozo the Clown lol

Some people on the That Metal show thread complained he was a amateur comedian and should be dumped.

I think the shorter season was better than season 4.

Is it just me or does it seem like we arent going to get too many more seasons of this show? Seems the buzz has really died down, and maybe the show is starting to feel a little long in the tooth?

Re: Louie (FX) - Season 5 Discussion Thread - Premieres 4/9/15

There were complaints that Season 4 was too dark, but it was still good. Great dark drama.

Then this new short season brought the funny back, but ended with 2 dark episodes.

Not sure why they rushed this season, should have just pushed it along down the road if there wasn't a proper budget. It's a great show, but I would have liked a full season. (I also hate we can't buy official DVD releases of this either).

I don't know that there was ever really huge buzz for it. It's always seemed like a series that appeals to a more niche audience and may have been more critically praised than hailed by the mainstream audience. I think he's said that he pictures it going around seven to nine seasons in the past.

As far as the season being rushed I would say other than it being shorter it didn't really feel like it. All the episodes were solid. The last two definitely had a different tone and I'm curious to see what's planned for next season.

Louie going on extended hiatus. May not return for possibly 2 years. Louis CK's busy schedule is the issue.

Part of the reason for Louie's hiatus. FX just picked up Pamela Adlon's new show to series, which Louis CK is producing and co-created.

Or maybe he's waiting to shake off the allegations of him masturbating in front of women while on tour years ago?

Oh for fuck's sake. The "allegations" that seemingly have no basis whatsoever and no real source? Give me a break.

Anyways the news is shitty. I love Louie and really don't want it to become a Curb Your Enthusiasm type deal where we never know if it'll actually return. Hopefully its not more than a year or two.

Adlon's show sounds just like Louie but with her taking Louie's role. I don't think I can take it seeing her going solo on a show. I'm sure it may be written really well, but Louie's show is more then enough for me.
