Re: iZombie (CW) - Season 1 Thread - From creator Rob Thomas - premieres 3/17/15

I thought the second episode was a bit better with the introduction of Anders as a second zombie. It does reek of hewing closely to the Veronica Mars formula. I don't think Rose McIver is nearly as good at the narration as Kristen Bell was on VM. I would probably drop that as the series moves along.

I could see this show finding its ground if it quickly realizes it should be fluffy and funny. The only thing I am having a real problem with is everyone accepting the zombies' look without a second thought. I get that people are supposed to think they are heavy Goth types but strangers would almost certainly ask them in some settings.

I just really hope they don't do with Anders' character what they did with Logan on VM. The guy was a piece of shit the first season and watching him and Veronica hook up later on was very annoying. I didn't even finish the VM movie because of it.

Anders was not cast as the male romantic lead, he's far too old for that role on a CW show. Plans can change of course, if the show hangs around for years and years.

Same here. Logan is probably my most hated character of all time for all of literature, film, the stage and television. But women usually go for the assholes so at least it was realistic in that portrayal.

The show might not be for me. I didn't like the second episode or first. I'm not really seeing the comparison to Veronica Mars which I loved. I'll give it a few more episodes and see if it grabs me.

On a different note some people are saying the show and comic are a ripoff of the book series My Life as a White Trash Zombie. It seems like they did to me but I'm not 100% sure. I guess it is possible two different people came up with very similar concepts.

Wikipedia (I know I know) shows the iZombie comic first being published in 2010 and My Life As A White Trash Zombie in 2011. If anything the iZombie show reminds me of Tru Calling with Eliza Dushka more than anything so far.

That's a good call with Tru Calling, though the morgue has become so common as a television setting.

I've never seen a single episode of Veronica Mars or Tru Calling, so I'm enjoying this show on its own merit.

I don't believe for a second that someone who is a big fan of Veronica Mars does not see the similarities between this show and that one after watching an episode.

The scripts are nearly identical to Veronica Mars. I am sure the show was pitched to the CW as Veronica Mars as a zombie. All it is missing is a father figure and the high school setting. iZombie substitutes Mars' natural sleuthing skills with insight from Liv's psychic ability in the formula that drives the narrative.

For real, it's the exact same structure as a VM episode. EXACT.

Another fantastic episode tonight. I have a weak stomach and start dry heaving if I see the brains go into the mouth.

Agreed, another great episode. The writing is always so much fun. I like the show better every week, and the cast works so well together.

Blaine though, he is so so bad. He's cute & funny so it is easy to forget he is a serious villain.

It's sort of amusing to see this series described as Veronica mars with zombies when Veronica Mars was Buffy without the vampires.

She's the perfect mix of Buffy and Veronica Mars, from physical appearance to mannerisms. That's not a bad thing.

Re: iZombie (CW) - Season 1 Thread - From creator Rob Thomas - premieres 3/17/15

I liked this episode a lot more than the second. The case/brain of the week was more interesting. I'm still not quite sold on the main character's having a major personality shift every week it worked well here. The side story with the zombie friend in the hole was pretty cool.

A couple of annoying things.

Perhaps it was due to the personality change, but the abrupt shift in the relationship with Blaine was odd.

The line at the end of the scene before the final interrogation when Liv said to her boss "It's Clive. He needs us both." Questioning looks. Dramatic pause. It was so oversold that it completely gave away the garbage man twist.

and WORST. LAWYER. EVER.

I thought it was odd that nobody other than Liv and Ravi went to the covered-up hole after those boys posted their Facebook picture of the zombie.

True, especially considering it must have gotten some traction online if it triggered a Google News alert.

Good episode. I'm enjoying these as a case of the week type of thing, not sure about the overall arc with Zombie Sark though.

I like this so far. I remember liking VM but also remember never finishing it for some reason.

I'm not big into the supernatural stuff (couldn't get into Buffy) sort of thing but it's nice to watch something different on occasion.

Good to be back here, first time I've been on the site since last May. Wasn't able to watch much TV for awhile just due to being busy with work stuff and have a lot to catch up on and not watching much 'live.'

OK episode, but so far I've enjoyed the pilot the most.

I still don't care much for the convenient psychic flashes to solve the crime. It pretty much takes any interesting detective work out of the case of the week.

I liked Liv running into someone she knew that had been turned, although it would have been better to see Liv spend some time with her friend pre-zombie before she killed her.

This is the first episode where the case of the week was actually interesting and I cared about the outcome.

Agree, although I didn't think for a minute Clive would turn out to be bad. Plus the timeline didn't make sense. Sam was in witsec, the head of the family had been taken down months ago, Clive is openly working as a cop, and yet his partner "Ray" is still undercover?

That said, it was a fun story and I really liked the part in the video store.

On the other hand the Blaine storyline scenes don't seem to fit with the rest of the show.
