Siggy was written out of the show because the actress had a family issue.

Kind of surprised to see Siggy's end tonight, would rather it have been Aslaug, but I read an interview where Gilsig said she was looking to leave as she had family things that needed her attention.
Really not interested in the England story, so I'm happy with Horik's son and Jarl Borg's wife showing up.

I thought we were going to see Paris this season?

If you use a Charter DVR, you may want to check for tomorrow's episode. My listing added a ! To the title and it seems to have messed up my season pass. I had to manually set it.

I could see that but I think it's more about showing how people of both faiths, Christian and Pagan, can end up misled by others using those religions for their own purposes. The show has made the point that those in power use their local religion to control the lower classes.
Once again this show went for shocking visuals that have absolutely no basis in historical fact. While the burning cross imagery made an impact, it is utter fiction invented by this show. It was so wildly over the top as they recited the Lord's Prayer after pillaging the pagan village. This show is far better when it sticks to bloody siege action.

The way Floki told Ragnar that it was Odin who nailed his wife, a combination of excitement and joy, cracked me up

Great news. This is currently my favorite show on television.

That was certainly unexpected, though I thought they telegraphed the death too much in this episode. I got the feeling from the History Channel broadcast it was missing a couple of important bridging scenes.
King Ragnar seems to be losing his grip and there are now people close to him that have an ulterior agenda.

Too bad about Aethelstan as he was one of the few truly fleshed out characters in the show. Come to think of it so was Siggy.

Well that sucked. The Aethelstan and Ragnar relationship was the most interesting on the show.

Athelstan was my favorite character after Flocki. Boo.
Regarding the legend this show draws from,
It'd be cool to see this show eventually jump ahead a generation and cover this. It feels almost Shakespearean.

Alfred the Great does become King of what eventually becomes England, though decades after the current timeline in the show. I looked a little bit into the actual history surrounding this period, this show plays hard and fast with the historical facts. I was most surprised to find out some things about Rollo as a historical person, it will be interesting to see how the show handles him going forward.

This show is great. The Paris battle reminded me of Blackwater from GoT. Flocki going nuts or nuttier was interesting. The amount of death in this episode was so high. As soon as they went into the tunnel you knew what was going to happen. Oh and when the giants showed up to remove the gate...wait that was different show.
I would have taken that deal with Lagertha. You can't live forever right.

All I know is Lagertha should be Ronda Rousey's next opponent.
And this show is amazing. The first half hour was insane.

Yes, but we are talking massive athletic ability differences between the two casts.
I don't think there is a cast that can touch Travis, Clive, etc. Even the Spartacus clan would look like the JV team standing next to them.

Real good episode. I thought the previous one was a bit light (one of the few during the run of this show), but they made up for it with that battle scene during this one.
I'm interested to see what becomes of Floki - Between the last episode and this one it seems like Ragnar set him up to fail, but was that to win him back after all the Aethelsan (however you spell it!) and Wessex stuff, or have him doubt the gods a bit, or just to diminish him some in case he was gaining influence?

I actually believed they were setting Floki up to make an attempt on Ragnar's life. That didn't happen, Floki went mildly crazy. I thought it was a bit of a cheat with Ragnar's son in the battle. They did an entire scene like he had died in battle, only to revive him later.
