Jones made the announcement after TBS confirmed that it ordered 10 episodes of an unnamed comedy series he'll star in. The series' pilot episode was written and executive produced by Jones and his wife, fellow "The Daily Show" correspondent Samantha Bee, according to Variety.
Bee hasn't commented on the news, so it's unclear whether she'll stick with her duties at "The Daily Show" while serving as an executive producer on the new series.

Guess I would have lost my bet on who the next host will be.
I wonder if they'll try for John Fugelsang?

Even though his name's not in the title, replacing Stewart on DS is like replacing Colbert on Colbert Report; they had to come up with a whole new show instead, and they should do the same with DS.

However, a lot of people thought that replacing Craig Kilborn as host was unthinkable. People thought that nobody but William Hartnell could play The Doctor in Doctor Who. Johnny Carson was synonymous with The Tonight Show for many.
There's lots and lots of examples of hosts of shows being replaced. No other host will be Jon Stewart, and the show will be different because of it, but that's no reason to abandon the show entirely.

The Daily Show was there before Stewart, and it will likely be there after Stewart. I'm sure it will evolve under a new host as it did after Kilborn left. I would liken it to replacing Carson on the Tonight Show. Carson wasn't the first host, but he turned late night TV into what it is today (for better or worse).

You guys are silly the way you're equating Kilborn with Stewart, as if it's the same show under both guyd and how you seem to think as if Kilborn had even a fraction of the impact Stewart has had.
And the way you all keep bringing up Kilborn is laughable as well - I bet 99% of DS viewers don't even know who he even is anymore.

I never watched TDS when Kilborn hosted, but I infrequently tuned in to his later CBS talk show. I like his comic delivery a fair bit (he's far more innately funny than O'Brien, to me), but there's something oily and self-congratulatory about him that's simultaneously off-putting and part of his amusing schtick. I don't know how he was hosting TDS, but I can't imagine he had the same level of commitment to political ideals as Stewart has.

And no, Kilborn didn't have the same impact, but Steve Allen & Jack Paar didn't have the same impact that Johnny Carson did on The Tonight Show, but the show survived Johnny Carson's retirement.
I watched TDS since the beginning, and when Kilborn left, there was a lot of doubt about the new host and whether the show would survive or be as good. I myself kept an open mind though, which is what I'm doing now. Stewart's impact on the show in undeniable, and the show won't be the same without him. That doesn't mean that they can't get a new host that can make a show that's just as good, just different.

I was actually huge Stewart fan, as a stand-up comedian, long before he took over TDS. And I remember actually being disappointed after his first couple episodes, and didn't really watch it regularly after that, until after 9/11.

Wow--this show is going to look so different a year from now.

And when TDS also retired "5 Questions" during Jon Stewart's 1st week as host, I was so disappointed - how could they get rid of one of the best parts of the interviews? But I got on the Jon Stewart train soon afterwards and now, looking back, it's hard to imagine that I ever thought Craig Kilborn was a better host of The Daily Show.

Nah he's not the right fit for this type of gig in my opinion. Ferguson is too offbeat and I don't think likes to conform to a format necessarily. Same goes for guys like Conan or Hardwick. It takes a very specific type of comedian to be able to host a show like this if you ask me. I think what's made Jon Stewart so great is that he's been able to balance being a comedian with being a host that can be taken somewhat seriously as a news reporter. Kilborn was never great as host from what I've seen but I just don't like the guy in general. He comes off very douchey and too mean spirited.

Rumor is that Tina Fey might be taking over for Stewart - which would be great, but unlikely, as I don't think Fey wants to deal with the grind of a show like this.

If that happens I'd never watch The Daily Show again. I truthfully cannot stand Fey and have never found her the slightest bit funny.

There's no evidence that Tina Fey and Comedy Central have talked at all about this. It's not even clear if Tina Fey would be interested.

There's no rumor. There was a poll taken to see who people would like as host, and Tina Fey was at the top of the list:
