TNT is doing a marathon of the first season today and they showed the made-for-TV films last night.

The premiere episodes were fun, establishing the "big bad" for this season and setting the overall arc and status quo.

It looks like...
Spoiler:
Noah Wyle's character is again only recurring, off on his own quest, with Rebecca Romijn's character again with the other 3 librarians for the bulk of the season

The opening episodes were fun, much like the original series of Librarian movies. I guess we'll see a lot more fictional characters this season.

Heard of the movies but not of the series. Saw some ads recently and it looks interesting. I'm assuming that I don't need to see the movies to be able to start the series?

No you don't really need to have watched the films to understand things (I finally watched the films this weekend) though it would be helpful to watch the series premiere just so you have the lay of the land.

I liked the episode and seeing random fictional characters over the course of the season should be fun. I really, really liked the outfit Romijn had on at the museum opening.

Wyle was the main character on the films, but the series has an entirely new cast. Wyle pops in every now and then.

You really should watch the 1st season before going into season 2. They set up this new cast and who they are.

While watching the movies and first season would help you learn about the characters, this is a breezy TNT adventure series. You'd probably pick up what you need to know fairly quickly watching new episodes. This is not Game of Thrones.

This week's episode was really fun! A cool idea, and well-executed. Ezekiel's bonding moments with each of the others on his team were touching--especially with Baird. There was some real character growth over the course of the episode. It sucks that he got reset at the end and doesn't remember any of it.

Yeah time loop episodes are usually fun (Stargate SG-1's is Hilarious) and this one was no exception. It would have been nice if they hadn't completely reset Ezekiel's character but the explanation was plausible.

Re: The Librarians (TNT) - S: Wyle, Romijn, Kane, Booth -- Series Thread -- 12/7/14

The Librarians executive producer Noah Wyle has signed a deal to reprise his role as Flynn Carsen on the TNT action adventure series’ upcoming third season. He will appear in six of the 10 episodes. Additionally, Wyle is set to direct two episodes from Season 3. He also will write one.

His appearances in the episodes have been gradually expanding. In the first season, Wyle was only in 4 out of 10 episodes. In season 2 he was in 5/10.

I'm guessing Falling Skys ending freed him up some.

Any idea when or if they will put the first two seasons out on blu-ray?

No idea. It's not even out on DVD in the US.

The first season has been released in Germany (as "Die Quest"), with the 2nd season on the way. Beware region coding though

Why can't they just translate Librarians? Quest is much less specific to the show.

It goes back to the title for the original movie The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, which was translate to German as "The Quest - Jagd nach dem Speer des Schicksals (The Quest - Hunt for the Spear)". The two subsequent films were thus titled "The Quest:" and now the show is "The Quest: The Series".

Well, for whatever reason, they decided not to use Librarian in the original's title when translating, and as it was a one-off at that time, they likely didn't think removing it was that big of a deal. Once the sequels were made though, they were stuck with their alternate title for continuity's sake.

Edit: It's not like US studios haven't changed titles. Armour of God II: Operation Condor was released in the US as just Operation Condor, and then when the studio decided to release the original film, they called it Operation Condor II: Armour of God.

Miramax was briefly going to call Shaolin Soccer "Kung Fu Soccer" until fan revolt caused them to backtrack.

Strange, I wanted to catch up with S1 last year but couldn't find a BD/DVD release. Figured it would come eventually, but still nothing in the US?

Do you subscribe to Hulu? TNT signed an exclusive streaming deal for The Librarians on there. Season 1 is there. Season 2 will probably be posted in late summer or early Fall before season 3 starts.

I don't, not much of a streamer. I stick with BD/DVD releases.

Will take a look at importing the set, thanks Jay G for the Amazon.de links above.
