Re: 2014 Christmas TV Schedule

The Hallmark channel has already gotten into the Christmas spirit, their schedule is already loaded with seasonal movies.

It's funny, but when I think of favorite DVDTalkers over my lifetime here, Rob jumps to the first page of the list. I realize now that he barely ever posts, but I love Christmas programming so much and his list is a yearly highlight for me.

Looks like 90% of the programs on his list are on the Hallmark channel & then ABC Family. If you don't have cable, then you're out of luck.

The OTA networks rarely show any Christmas themed movies or specials worthwhile, especially not like Hallmark or ABC Family who fill well over 1 month of Holiday programs.

If you have paid attention, the broadcast networks have slowly eliminated most Christmas-themed shows in the past five years from their schedule. Now we are lucky to get a couple of viewings for It's A Wonderful Life and a couple of Rankin-Bass Christmas specials. Almost all of it has been pushed to cable.

I'm well aware that the broadcast networks don't show any Holiday themed shows except maybe Holiday themed episodes of currently airing shows.

Lifetime, ABC Family and Hallmark are all about Christimas themed movies during the Holiday season. Some are very watchable and some are super cheesy.

I think some of the Christmas movies on Lifetime are watchable compared to Hallmark.

I played catch up with some specials last night. I enjoyed this one. It gave me several chuckles, which is all I ask from Christmas specials these days.

After that I put on the new Elf special. It was essentially a musical retelling of the movie. At least it was for how far into it I got. I turned it off after 10 minutes or so. Will Ferrell already did it perfectly, so why bother? Maybe if it was a new story.

Re: 2014 Christmas TV Schedule

I didn't mind the animated Elf special. Most of it was a rehash from the movie but I liked the animation. I'm not sure making it a musical was the correct call, however.
