Elementary (CBS) -- Season 3 Thread -- Thursdays starting 10/30/14
ELEMENTARY stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson in a modern-day drama about a crime-solving duo that cracks the NYPD's most impossible cases. Following his fall from grace in London and a stint in rehab, eccentric Sherlock escapes to Manhattan where his wealthy father forces him to live with his worst nightmare - a sober companion, Dr. Watson. A successful surgeon until she lost a patient and her license three years ago, Watson views her current job as another opportunity to help people, as well as paying a penance. However, the restless Sherlock is nothing like her previous clients. He informs her that none of her expertise as an addiction specialist applies to him and he's devised his own post-rehab regimen - resuming his work as a police consultant in New York City. Watson has no choice but to accompany her irascible new charge on his jobs. But Sherlock finds her medical background helpful, and Watson realizes she has a knack for playing investigator. Sherlock's police contact, Capt. Tobias "Toby" Gregson, knows from previous experience working with Scotland Yard that Sherlock is brilliant at closing cases, and welcomes him as part of the team. With the mischievous Sherlock Holmes now running free in New York solving crime, it's simple deduction that he's going to need someone to keep him grounded, and it's elementary that it's a job for Watson.

24 episode 3rd season.
The amount of fans here watching and talking about Elementary regularly has been spotty at best. 1 thread for season 3 this time.

Yeah, great episode. Pretty bold to focus so much of the episode on Joan, but I'm glad that she's a leading character in her own right and not just a lackey for Sherlock.
It's always good to see Gina Gershon. She's definitely suited for this role.
The image above is interesting (the chess pieces). My guess is Sherlock's new protégé is not long for this world.

The second half was better, as it got closer back to Joan and Sherlock together. I was a little thrown by the focus on Joan so much. Hopefully this season is better than last year's disappointing sophomore slump.

Well, that was sure a huge blunder for an assassin not to recall finger prints can be found on the inside of a plastic glove.

The third episode with the mad men math guy was pretty good. Kind of interesting what they are doing with Watson. I wonder if she is leaving the show.

The show's ratings are really, really bad right now so it probably wouldn't matter anyway (though a Fourth is probably guaranteed for syndication reasons, but probably not on Thursday nights).
I'm not feeling this Season very much. It's a shame I actually enjoy Forever more.

I'm surprised at the lack of reaction here to Sherlock's new protege. Her background seems overly traumatic for network television. I'm not sure how this show can juggle three master detectives on each case. I still look forward each week to a new episode but I'm not sure this series has a firm direction. I probably would have added Moriarty as a permanent addition, maybe playing with her going straight at Sherlock's side. The new protege feels like a weak replacement for that scenario.
I understand why they felt it necessary to turn Joan into a master detective this early, but I think it limits the storytelling possibilities.

The math episode was actually one of the better mysteries we've gotten in a single episode in some time. That is what killed the show in the latter half of last season, each episode had very predictable mysteries.

This week's episode was one of the better ones in the series for me. I really enjoy this show. Wonder why no one's watching.

I agree. This has been one of my favorites since it started. I hope it sticks around for more seasons. Big fan of both leads and the supporting cast they've built does well with them.

Why does the day it airs matter? Most people don't watch tv live. Hmmm actually I'm not sure of that now that i think about it. I haven't watched anything live in years.

Advertisers are not willing to pay for viewers that dvr and skip over commercials.
If a show's ratings are too low (relative to other shows on the same network), there's a risk of the show being canceled. Especially in a show's first two seasons.

I think that brutally bad episode after the Super Bowl did permanent brand damage to Elementary. It was obvious they had written that episode in a much different manner than every other episode in the series, likely ceding to network demands.

The series is in its third season. It's getting at least one more regardless of where it's shuffled off to. And if it does OK on Fridays or Sundays, it may get a few more.

Just watched the AI episode. It seems to be a single episode which is very odd because the ending is giant cock tease.
