Utopia (FOX) -- New Reality Social Experiment Series -- Premieres 9/7/14
I saw that they went up last week, but I haven't had the time to check them out yet.
I'm moderately interested in the show, so I'm planning to check it out when it premieres on Fox this Sunday night.
Has anybody been watching the live feeds? Anyone else planning on watching the show?

Re: Is anybody watching the live feeds from UTOPIA yet?
FYI, 3 episodes air this week. Tonight (2 hours), Tuesday and Friday (1 hour)
Better start clearing out those DVRs.
Here's the series description for those who know nothing about this show
Get ready to witness the birth of a brave new world. On the daring unscripted series UTOPIA, 15 pioneering Americans wave goodbye - for an entire year - to the lives they've known, move to a remote location and set out to create a society from scratch. They've got limited supplies, wildly diverse backgrounds and zero bathrooms. UTOPIA kicks off with a special three-night premiere, beginning on a special night, Sunday, Sept. 7 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following the FOX NFL doubleheader. The series continues in its regular time period, Tuesday, Sept. 9 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), with six special broadcasts on Fridays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), beginning Sept. 12 on FOX. From executive producer John de Mol, and based on the hit Dutch television series of the same name, UTOPIA asks the question: "If you could restart the world, what would you do differently?" These 15 Utopians - seven women, eight men - have accepted the challenge and each of them brings a unique skill set and ideal to UTOPIA. A lawyer, a preacher, a contractor, a chef, an ex-con and a soon-to-be-mom are among those seeking to build this new society. What conflicts will emerge, what leaders will arise and what ideals will shape this new world?

I was interested in the idea but after reading the "meet the contestants", I'm more interested in how much of a train wreck this is going to be.

Twenty five minutes in and I am wishing that some contestant would have packed a gun and taken more advantage of the "no laws" business. These people are obnoxious, especially the homeless felon. And who goes onto this kind of thing pregnant?

These people are so freakin' annoying.
Having said that, I've already developed a thing for Bri...so I guess that I'll hang around for a while.

I didn't know what to expect. It seemed like an extreme amount of drama and anger for less than three days. While it looked genuine, I wonder if there are actors in the cast. We've now seen a decade of reality television and more happened in three days than what happens in two months on most shows. I smell a fix.
The producers always cast psychologically unstable contestants, in the hopes the situation explodes. Yes, taking cityfolk and dumping them in a commune with no resources will cause tempers to flare.
And what kind of utopia is it with a lawyer in the mix?

I love the doomsday prepper chick suggesting that they compost their feces. Yeah, real smart. Maybe they should just poison their food directly. And no surprise they were provided a shitload of booze. That's reality show 101: get the already volatile personalities drunk to stir up a shitstorm in the first episode.

So it is essentially The Real World or some shit like that? Get a bunch of opposites together and ask them to co-exist. I assume they have an endless supply of booze, just to fuel the fire and assure that conflict will arise.

I was barely able to tolerate these people for 2 hours. I can't imagine investing a year in them. It almost seems like when casting this show they started with a list of stereotypes and then found the most unlikeable person from each category.

Watched a bit - it kept me interested, but I can not commit to a year long show.
I agree that they provided them with wine to get some romance, fights, etc stirred up.
And agree with others - How does the producers allow a pregnant woman onto the show?

I'm not a fan. Watched the first hour and just couldn't hang on for a second hour. Don't want to watch a full year of inebriated type-A personalities vying for power. Also didn't care much for the host or the "documentary" format they're going for. Too bad. Had they opted for a more reasonable cross-section of society rather than so many on the fringe, I think this could have been an interesting show.
I enjoy shows like Big Brother where they do a similar thing...but at least that has general rules and a game show element they're always working toward. Here, you have a lot of aimless people without any goal to work toward. It's no wonder they're so bored they're drinking, yelling and hooking up after one day...

Some of the people are just flat out crazy. How many times are people going to yell and scream at each other and then hug a second later?

It does feel like the Real World, though it usually took months for these types of conflicts to develop on that series. They've definitely cast as many unstable personalities as possible. I would bet good money the female cast members willing to hang out nude are getting paid extra.

Doomsday Prepper is flat nuts.
She would drive me off the show.
I think there is at least one plant on the show.
The homeless angry black guy is too easy. Has to be a plant.
Hex, right after saying how bad ass she is then gets carted away because she can't handle her booze.
The skinny Japanese(?) girl already hanging off the arm of one of the guys.

I discovered this series is mostly a rip-off of an older British reality show called Castaway 2000, which came out around the time of the first Survivor. There truly aren't any new ideas in Hollywood, apparently.

The show's budget is reportedly close to $50M
That sounds really really expensive for a reality TV show. Some scripted shows don't even have budgets that high.
