The Tick (Amazon) -- Series Discussion Thread

From People.com;

Don’t worry citizens, The Tick is back to save the day!

Broad-shouldered Patrick Warburton only sported his blue antennae for one season the first go-around, but the critically acclaimed superhero parody is now being revived on Amazon, a source tells PEOPLE.

The cult-classic series is based on a comic book by Ben Edlund and was first brought to television as an animated series that enjoyed three seasons of success in the mid 1990s. In early 2002, Fox canceled Warburton's live-action version (which also starred a pre-Lost Nestor Carbonell) after just nine episodes.

But no one can stop The Tick from keeping watch over The City.

For more inspiring stories about real-life heroes and can't-miss articles found only in PEOPLE subscribe now.

Warburton – who has also appeared on Seinfeld and Rules of Engagement – recently inked a deal with Amazon and Sony to reprise his role, with Edlund producing and writing, according to the source.

Fans can only hope Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood will once again design Warburton's ab-tastic blue body suit.

Looking forward to more episodes!

Wow, that's great news. This and Greg the Bunny were awesome on Fox during that time.

KEEN! Amazon just sold a subscription.

I've still have a Tick T-shirt that I got from a comic store in the late 90's. I only wear it like twice a year so it's still in pretty good shape. It's the cartoon Tick.

Wow. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but I watched a few back in the day. I'd probably watch this.

Sorry to hijack The Tick, but ... Greg the Bunny! Yet another reference I commonly make and nobody understands: Aye-iggit, blah.

I can't believe this, all my fanboy dreams are coming true. The animated series still brilliantly holds up and the live-action series had huge potential.

Wait, what? Really? That's awesome.

Did Rules of Engagement get cancelled? I thought once CBS renews a Monday night Sitcom, they keep it on their schedule until all the cast members are dead.

It would be great if they brought back the whole cast, or at least Carbonel.

On the one hand this sounds pretty cool, but on the other a revival after twelve years makes me skeptical. I might still check it out though.

He's got a pretty steady career now, I doubt he's coming back. It wouldn't shock me if no one from the original comes back except Warburton.

Re: The Tick - Patrick Warburton to return for Amazon

This is great news. I'd like the whole cast to come back, but Warburton and Edlund are enough to make me happy.

Re: The Tick - Patrick Warburton to return for Amazon

The ancillary characters are likely Sony's IP anyway. Edlund should own the characters who originated in the comics only after all this time, and Sony has likely lost any claim to their rights years ago. Maybe it's time for a third version of the Batman/Wonder Woman supporting parody team?

From what I know of the comic, there are no shortage of characters for them to bring in. Looking forward to this, even though it'll mean I have to get a prime subscription.

I'd like a new Arthur. I didn't care for the guy who played him. I'd go with Johnathan Slavin from Better Off Ted.

So for anyone interested who doesn't own it I saw the complete (for now) series at Walmart for $5. Not sure if they all have it though.

/\ Be aware, though, that it is a Mill Creek repackaging.

The series is also on Netflix Instant.

Re: The Tick - Patrick Warburton to return for Amazon

Hulu Plus, the ball is now in your court to revive a cancelled Fox sitcom. Titus might finally see a fourth season!

I personally thought the live-action adaptation of The Tick sucked. I'd rather see a show like Action get a second chance of life than this shit.

I imagine it will have the same mix of characters as seen on the first live-action TV series. I remember there were some complications and that the rights to certain characters were tied up a little differently between the comics, the cartoon, and the television series.
