What is the point in taking about 6 weeks off before new eps? And has the railroad moved an inch so far this season?

To be fair, I'd been anticipating that character's demise. With the Swede on his way back to the railroad, the writers were obviously going to off the one character that could out him for what he did to that Mormon family.

Ruth looked hot wielding that revolver. I always liked her so I hope she doesn't hang.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how the journalist was introduced as a lesbian and is now playing ball with the other team.

I want a poster of that very scene on my wall. That just looked bad ass.

I hate long breaks for shows like this. Ratings always turn to shit and then they always start talking about cancellations.

AMC has been surprisingly loyal to this series. I imagine it returns.

I've really liked this season. Classic western stuff but that works for me

Oh, and this final episode before the break was gorgeously shot.

Seven episodes per year in 2015 and 2016? This show isn't that great, I am not sure I will hang around after this current batch of episodes end. AMC has amazing gall for a cable net that got extremely lucky with The Walking Dead.

14 episodes split over 2 years. Good Lord AMC.

Re: Hell on Wheels (AMC) -- Season 4 Thread -- Saturdays starting 8/2/14

Don't like this tactic either, but if they air the first part in late summer/early fall and then finish in early 2016, it will just follow the pattern of a lot of network shows. At least it's not taking a long hiatus a la Sopranos.

Hopefully, the DVD/BD release will be one set rather than split.

Happy to see it renewed, but not liking the split season crap, especially a full year apart.

Re: Hell on Wheels (AMC) -- Season 4 Thread -- Saturdays starting 8/2/14

Interesting that AMC does not own the show. So it seems that's why they are ending it. Given how well it has done in ratings, I wonder if it can be shopped around to another network. I know Deadwood was beloved by many before HBO pulled the plug. Did it do well enough (ratings-wise) that they might consider picking up Hell On Wheels (or a spinoff featuring the continuing adventures of Cullen Bohannon after the railroad is finished)?

That was one of the bloodiest episodes I've ever seen on television. Shockingly graphic for something not on premium cable. I guess the Walking Dead has desensitized AMC's standards and practices.

Holy cow, taking the a-hole's leg off was worse than a lot of the stuff we see on the Walking Dead. And the guy ripping the other guy's eye out of his head. Yikes.

Ugh. AMC needs to, though. Except for TWD, its upcoming spin-off, and Better Call Saul (another spin-off) they have absolutely no worthwhile original programming. Mad Men is ending, so I guess this was the only logical step.

They really need to get someone new in there to get in some more quality shows.

And not cancel a show that draws huge ratings numbers, regardless of who owns said show.

A 5 season, 57 episode run that's going to last into summer 2016 is not long enough? I think that's more than enough time, especially with this final batch of episodes to write a proper and satisfying conclusion.

Given that the show is doing so well in ratings, from a financial standpoint, it makes no sense to pull the plug. If the ratings were dipping, then I'd understand asking the showrunner and writers to come up with a conclusion.

If this is indeed a creative decision, I wish they would have shot their allotted two episodes with Common and left them for the tail end of season 5. That way we might have gotten a better finale for Elam than Bear Killer.
