Noah Wyle's voice sounds like it comes from the Christian Bale school of Batman these days.

Yeah, the muddling around endlessly is problematic for a lot of 'modern' shows (Revolution, anyone?). There's certainly a place for serialized stories with inter-episode continuity & can make for some truly compelling plots...but the format can also lead to lazy writing that strings viewers along waiting for the inevitable to happen.
Sometimes makes me long for those old 'classic' shows in which the characters foiled tons of nefarious schemes, had multiple love affairs, and generally saved their communities (if not the world) dozens of times all in the course of one season. In fact, most of what the characters experience over the course of 22-30 episodes would fill several lifetimes of the Most Interesting Person in the World.
And, yeah, Tom Mason (AKA Ghost...at least he has a cute nickname to match Cochise) does have that Batman voice deal going on. Makes everyone take him more seriously, I guess (maybe the 2nd Mass still remembers him from ER).

I actually thought this was the first good episode of the season. Pope had the best line of the season, calling Lourdes an alien-loving bitch.

I agree.
Back when Stargate Universe ended in 2011, I was looking for another sci-fi series to watch and came across Falling Skies.
Even back in season 1, it seemed rather lackluster and boring.
As in syndication on services like Netflix, Hulu, etc ... or basic cable channels?
Except maybe syfy, I don't know what network/cable channels would be interested in doing reruns of a 52-episode show that is sorta serialized. (IIRC, wasn't the magic number of 100 or 88 episodes desirable for off-network syndication? )

Falling Skies actually has an exclusive streaming deal with Amazon Prime. That's pretty much where WB/Amblin will be getting the off network revenue from.
