Really great season overall. And I thought a very good finale--although open ended which I think is a bit of a disappointment.
I think my only real issue with it is, well, they just won't give us any closure. I mean...all good things do HAVE to come to an end. And I just wish that they would sort of say, "okay, we had nine seasons, we had a short Redemption TV arc, and we've been around for 13 years...we should probably not end on an ambigious note."
I do kind of like it, to the extent that you can justify however you want the ending to be based on what you think or even want to happen. I guess I just feel the producers/writers are afraid of giving a finite ending because they are concerned the show might return. And I think it's preventing them from giving us the more conclusive ending that maybe they would ultimately prefer. I just think finales like "The Shield" or "Breaking Bad" would be far less satisfying if the producers were concerned with tailoring their ending around a semi-hopeful wish that the show would be resurrected again a couple years down the line.
Still really enjoyed it though. If that's all we ever get, they did a really good job with these last 12. Would've of course loved to have seen Tony--and even Kim actually--but we can't get everything.

Loved it, but was I the only one surprised it seemed like the Russians didn't search or bind Jack before sticking him on the helicopter? They should know what he'd be capable of doing with a hidden blade or something like that in a confined area like the inside of the helicopter?

I thought that too, but I think it was meant more to symbolize him giving up in exchange for the Russians not going after his love ones. Like the Russian guy said to Jack, he was the only one they wanted. They were just going to go after everyone Jack cared about until they got him. There was some degree of mutual trust on both sides.

#24LADfinale - the one question no one involved has an answer for at this point is "will there be a 10th season". Sorry.
maybe some hope...

Looked like jack was going to off himself after the Audrey news. Good finale but I don't like how it ended. I mean if we knew they were coming back, I wouldn't mind so much.

Damn fine season and good finale. I liked the 2010 finale better, but I'm content with this one. Jack is happy is doesn't have to run anymore. As long as his friends and family are safe, he will be ok.
Epic beheading of Cheng.
Didn't expect Audrey to die. I immediately had flashbacks of Day 5 and was hoping she would survive. But once that silent clock hit, game over. I liked the idea that Jack considered suicide on the ship.
Day 9 grade = A
I consider Bauer the anti-James Bond. Bond gets all the women, flashy cars, and cool gadgets. Bauer has always had the bad luck and everything taken away from him. Bauer is only truly happy when the people he cares about are safe. In this case, the Russians [should be] leaving Chloe and his family alone.

I'm an emotional wreck. That was so heartbreaking. Totally made sense and appropriate for the show, but FUCK, that was a tough watch. Loved the boat assault, both before they nabbed Chloe and after Jack becomes the avenging angel. Awesome season, but it just can't end like that. Dude deserves a happy ending.
Question : What is a more dangerous trope -- being the President's daughter or being a woman Jack loves? Either way Audrey was pretty screwed.

I had to laugh at Chang pulling off those kung-fu moves. Also, how did he suddenly have so many goons?

The transport via ship was provided by the Russian dude to get Chang out of the country, so presumably they were already on guard on the ship.

So the bad guys didn't even bother putting Jack in cuffs?
He could have easily knocked off everybody in that chopper.

Great finale.
But, I just feel freaking awful for Jack. Kiefer really did tremendous work, especially the scene where Jack heard the news about Audrey and then went ballistic.
The fight scene between Jack and Cheng kicked ass. at Cheng's martial arts moves.
Just sucks that we're once again left in limbo about Jack. Probably headed for prison in Moscow. But, I wish there was evidence that proved the people Jack killed and Yuri Suvarov were all traitors in that conspiracy from 4 years ago.
Looks like Kate is resigning from the CIA. I really wouldn't mind seeing her again. I think Yvonne can carry a show and Kate has a strong enough and tragic back story like Jack.
Hopefully the new Chairmen of FOX (Walden and Newman) who were responsible for getting Live Another Day on the air, will see there is still demand for 24. If it gets brought back, I'd like to see them bring in some new writers who can offer a really fresh take on 24 along with bringing back the current crop.
BTW, I did think the time jump worked really well for the context of the finale.
Goodbye 24. If this is the end, it was a great 9 season, 13 year ride.

We haven't seen the last of Jack Bauer. Might be a few years but he will be back!
Great final scene with Heller. Well written and superb performance by William Devane.
Stellar work of composing by Sean Callery.
Anyone notice the loud bird chirping when Kate was on the phone to Audrey? Was Kate standing next to a pet shop because I've never heard birds chirping at 10 o'clock at night.

I wanted a Highlander light show after Jack beheaded Cheng.
I'm disappointed Kate didn't give Audrey a bulletproof vest or use thermal imaging to find the sniper in the first place.
And isn't anyone in the CIA wondering about Jack?

Has there ever been a fake silent clock? The last one was for the show itself. It's over.

I agree...they want him for his information and skills...and after being tortured by the Chinese for a year, the Russians will seem like a cake walk. If they were going to kill him, there's no need for him to get on the helicopter.

I just want the show to come back in any form (that includes Jack), and I really want Tony back too. But if not, this was a fantastic bonus season.

If you made a movie you could probably actually get James Badge Dale to reprise his character Chase "Lefty" Edmonds.
I'd say bring back Rick Schroder, but I thought he was blind by the end of the year. Of course, that didn't stop Rutger Hauer.

This show is not over. The way to end it would have been for Jack to die in the line of duty plain and simple. They are clearly going to continue, w/o Jack as the main character sure.
I agree with others this is completely set up for him to be put to work for the Russians. My guess is we will get a similar storyline like when Tony was presumed the terrorist. They will do a season where Kate and other new agents are investigating a new threat from someone that will turn out to be Jack. You won't see him for a long time in the season but he will eventually pop back in and be the bad guy (but of course working for the good guys all along).
Good season, good finale but for me to say officially goodbye to Jack Bauer he should go out in a blaze of glory. My only complaint about this season is that some things were a tad rushed. I know it was a shorter season which in many ways helped the show but there are moments where they could have slowed the pacing just a tad to give it more drama - particularly Jack's goodbye with Chloe.
Either way solid show, solid cast and was an enjoyable season.
Also Chang can suck it buddy! Revenge is a dish best served with a sword!
