Re: Stephen King's Under the Dome - Season 2 Discussion - CBS

Thank you Phantom Stranger! That was truly hilarious. someone should send it on to the Dome writers

From the previews, it looks like next week's episode will have no trouble meeting the high standards set this week.

I really do hope it doesn't get canceled since it's so much fun to pick apart. As someone else mentioned, this would be great fodder for MST3K (if only it was still around). I would love to see the Satellite of Love crew be forced to watch this show... a whole season's worth of torture!

It's the best hate-watching going on at the moment. Under The Dome has to remain on the air.

That review is lethally accurate (as well as hilarious). No matter how over-the-top the it reads, everything written was true and accurate. I am amazed at the sheer quantity of comically awful nonsense that was contained in a single hour of network television. I'm serious...it is truly remarkable. King/CBS must be having a laugh. What other explanation can there be?

If anyone has to make this show good, what would you do?

Recast, new writers, and make it a true mini-series. Even less screen time than the recent Fargo series.

That works!

It really should have been just the thirteen episodes. That would have been enough if done right or well.

JMHO, but 13 is far too much for this material. By true mini-series I was thinking far less. Basically the old school model for the mini-series, including past King adaptations.

Yup. I only started watching this because I thought it was a mini series like the old King stories. Same with Haven, although that ended up being a good show.

It feels this show has a lot of padding. A mini or maxi series is okay. Think people are not as into mini series? People watch movies, I love movies and I also like the idea of a four to thirteen hour story depending on the subject.

I would not be surprised if they grab this show out for a few seasons.

For a show that people said they were giving up on, this thread sure is lively

Can't speak for the others, but if EP3 isn't any better I'm really out. While it could be fun to watch something just to rip on it, I simply don't have that much time. The Bridge S2 just started so something has to go.

What the heck is going on at this diner? It's still operating like there isn't a dome overhead
or that supplies are still coming in. The place had better be selling Denver omelets for a
thousand bucks a pop. This place is ALWAYS full and only one person works there.
And when Angie died, Big Jim dropped everything and filled in. Say what you will about his
murderous tendencies, propane stealing, and drug manufacturing, but Big Jim gets shit done.

How long has the show been taking place thus far? If it's only a week like the book then the diner would still be stocked.

And in only two weeks Barbie killed some chick's husband and took over his place to the point that she misses him in bed for the what? day or two that he wasn't with her?

It's like this show likes to forget how little time has passed.

I wonder if this would have been any better if they had stuck with the 13-and-done plan. The padding you mention, also known as the "natural disaster of the week formula" is painful.

There is no money to be made, comparatively speaking, in a network mini-series anymore. Any property that gets any significant ratings in today's television environment will be an ongoing concern. The initial ratings indicated there was a significant interest in this Stephen King novel being adapted for film or television. Unfortunately, the show's staff were in way over their heads.

It likely would have been more refined.

Which is too bad from a story telling standpoint. It's either a limited two hour or so movie or every story concept being dragged out for years and or left on an annoying cliffhanger with no resolution.

I have many shows past and current that work perfectly as an on going series while some you can tell would work must better in a more limited setting as you can feel the padding of the overall story.

Re: Stephen King's Under the Dome - Season 2 Discussion - CBS

This is not looking good when there are no pithy comments left after a new episode last night. Big Jim appears to be romancing the science teacher and Joe's girlfriend wants to beat up the perky, new Dome Girl™ for making eyes at Joe.

They have now introduced time travel into the show and spotty wi-fi reception inside the dome. The teenagers seemed totally unconcerned with making outside contact via the spotty Wi-Fi service, despite being locked inside a dome for two weeks. You know they were itching to update their Facebook pages and Twitter accounts.
