So 3 leads that we now have to try and cast?

Ed Norton, Sam Rockwell, Hillary Swank.

Done.

So as an aside, at the Hollywood Reporter showrunner roundtable, Pizzolatto said that he gave McConaughey and Harrelson box sets of The Wire and Deadwood for homework before shooting. I just thought that was cool.

I'm guessing it's going to get harder and harder to find a big name star that isn't signed onto a project the closer they get to production without casting anyone.

Maybe they should shoot for someone that's been out of the spotlight for a while that needs a comeback...like Kurt Russell.

Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

McConaughey and Harrelson were given EP credit. That's not only prestigious, it's financially rewarding. I'd have to assume Pitt or any other true A-lister would demand it as well. I wonder if you can be an EP for a single season of a TV show or whether that credit has to move forward.

In the most meta-HBO way, this has got to be one of the most Entourage-like moment in Hollywood in years. I can just picture dozens of Ari Gold-types screaming at HBO execs that their client would be PERFECT for this.

Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

Since HBO hasn't even officially greenlighted a second season yet and they haven't cast anyone either, I'm guessing the soonest they could begin filming would be August or September. I think we're looking at late Spring (April or May 2015) as the soonest this could make air.

I'm still trying to get my head around what they want for Lead one. Seriously, it there anything Christian Bale and Josh Brolin have in common except gender.

She needs to be cast in more stuff.

If they're going to do this with 3 lead characters, I'm going to assume one with be dead at some point in Season 2.

Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

I doubt it will happen, at least not for season two but if McConaughey actually came back that would be pretty awesome. I'd hope that Harrelson would be back though too if that was the case. Although I do have to wonder if the series could capture the same greatness as their first season or if it would be best to just leave those characters be and not go back to them even though it's tempting. The way their story ended was pretty much perfect and I don't really know what more could be done to top it.

Re: True Detective (HBO) -- Season 2 News, Rumors

"I am considering it. I like this writer [Nic Pizzolatto] very much. I've met him, and he's the real deal as far as I'm concerned. Now, all the new seasons are different so I'm not committed—this new season has nothing to do with the last one. Except for him and his sensibility, which I think is extraordinary.

- William Friedkin, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, 7/9/14

I think Friedkin would be an amazing fit with this series.

Personally for me, I think Bill Friedkin is an overrated director. Yeah he's done some good stuff in the past like The Exorcist, The French Connection and To Live and Die in LA. But, I don't see anything in his directing style that he's done lately that another director couldn't do.

Wow, I didn't think this show would attract a director like Friedken, I hope they work something out, this season might even be better than the first.
