I thought Eli was going to saw Knox in half for a second there.

That ending.

Damn them for killing off my favourite character!

Their little attempt at fooling us was a bit obvious. When I saw him on the train, I knew they'd end up showing him dead under the boardwalk afterwards.

I've been a really big fan of the show, and while this season did have some great individual moments, as a whole I thought it was kind of meh.

During last week's final episode preview I figured the scene with Richard seeing everyone standing on the porch would be a death bed dream. I'm disappointed that I was right.

Noooooooooooo! Although with how they wrote the character this seasons, he was due.

I have no idea what they going to do with Chalky next season. It looks like we'll see more of Margaret next season though.

I had a bad feeling about Richard's fate once he was instrumental in Jimmy's body being found. It brought his character's arc to a logical end.

at Eli seeing it's Van Alden pulling up to give him a ride.

R.I.P. Mr. Harrow.

Loved this season, Jeffery Wright and Patricia Arquette were great additions to the cast.

Will be fun to see Eli & Van Alden with the Capone's in Chicago next season.

I don't know, Arquette didn't do anything for me. I don't recall enjoying her scenes much at all.

I was very nervous for Eli, and was relieved to see him make it through. He is a very underappreciated character, and extremely well acted.

Overall I really enjoyed this season. This is such a fantastic show and I'm already looking forward to next season.

Oh, and also... Poor Maybelle (Chalky's daughter). That was rather unfortunate!

Anyone else think that Eli is now working for the Feds as an informant on the Capones? They showed Narcisse getting turned and Nucky arrested, but then Nucky is out and Eli meets Van Alden. Gotta think they wouldn't just let either go.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- Season Finale -- "Farewell Daddy Blues" -- 11/24/13

This season wasn't the best, but I still really enjoyed it. It felt like kind of a series reset, and the number of cliffhangers this finale really solidified that. They've done a great job teeing up what should be an explosive season 5.

Can someone remind me how Eli knows the Chicago guys? Van Alden in particular?

I loved seeing Eli lash out when he killed Knox. Dude had it coming.

And Narcisse got turned? I remember him being arrested didn't see him get turned though.

Hoover got him to agree to inform on the millitant Gordon.

As foil for Nucky. I'll take Arquette's character over Kelly MacDonald's 10 times out of 10.

They didn't have anything on Nucky. That was the whole point of the meeting.

I seriously don't think Eli is going to be allowed to kill a Fed and then work as in informant. He was hiding out and now is (apparently) going to work for Capone.

Chicago is apparently the go-to place for killers of law enforcement officers.

Eli brought Capone with him to save Nucky's ass last season with the war with Masseria/Gyp. I'm almost certain that Eli met Van Alden when he was still sheriff and Van Alden was working out of the post office.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- Season Finale -- "Farewell Daddy Blues" -- 11/24/13

Holy fuck, what a finale. This show, it's just perfection. Sure it has some slow episodes, but to think this is a fucking TV show?! Amazing. Before The Sopranos came around, I never would of dreamed we would see such quality on television.

That said, I was really bummed to see Richard go out like that, especially accidentally killing Chalky's daughter. Michael K. Williams deserves an Emmy for the scene immediately after Chalky realizes that his daughter is dead and his guys pulled him away, wow.

Overall, this was just a terrific season. It might be my favorite even. Overall it's been a very even series for me so far, with maybe the exception being Season 3, but the finale that season was so awesome, that made up for it.

Here's a short interview with Terence Winter about the finale and who will be back next season...

Interesting article!

Although many will disagree, I'm glad to read that (season 5 spoiler)

Spoiler:
Gillian will be back.

Reading that interview made me sad about Richard all over again. But the guy has a point about why it was a good time and way for him to go...as much as it pains me to say it. Brilliant job done by Jack Huston (Richard).

Though a bit disjointed, a very fine season and season finale. Poor Chalky and Richard.

It's clear that Richard's story had reached its end and he needed to leave the show. I just wish he had left the show by moving to Wisconsin with Julia and Tommy. But I guess Boardwalk Empire isn't really the kind of show where people get to move to Wisconsin.
