Westworld (S4E01) -- "The Auguries" -- 6/26/22
Recap of seasons 1-3
Season 4 is 8 episodes.
For the record, the last episode aired May 3, 2020
Airing every 2 years doesn't help keeping people interested and the show is so high concept that it's not exactly easy to follow.

The only good thing about that is when I recently re-watched season 3 it barely felt like a rerun.
I fully expect the show will look beautiful, but I hope they used the time wisely to shore up the story.

Yeah, that’s the big issue for me, these obscenely long breaks in between seasons a-la Game of Thrones. It’s getting to the point recaps don’t even help.

completely forgot this was coming back, was there a recap at the start of this? Really don't want to watch season 3 again. It's hard to believe how little buzz this show is generating

Yes there was a previously on Westworld at the beginning I did post a seasons 1 to 3 recap above too.
I did watch it last night and there’s also a 5 minute short on HBO Max that explains the episode with Lisa Joy, Jonah Nolan and various members of the crew.
I enjoyed it. It felt like a complete reset of the show. I didn’t think it was hard to follow. Dolores is dead and Evan Rachel Wood is playing a new character named Christina. Maeve and Caleb along with some version of MIB are really the only carry overs for most of the episode. So they did have some carry over plot with them but it was pretty loose, so you wouldn’t be completely lost. Also 7 years have passed since season 3. Ariana DuBose from Westside story was also unrecognizable as Christina’s friend.
One of the entertainment magazines kind of spoiled the return of James Marsden awhile ago. since Teddy is also dead. So I think he’s also a new character.
The episode is beautifully filmed. The short said they filmed it at Hoover Dam, Big Bear Lake and New York City. A lot of composited backgrounds was used in the NYC scenes.

Nice to have this back during summer. This is a show I look forward to even if the seasons don't always live up to expectations. I like the photography and the dark and foreboding synth score. The opening with the flies was like something out of Black Mirror. Also liked everything with Maeve. Glad to see domestic Caleb getting away from annoying wife.
I'm guessing new Dolores's cheerful roommate is not all she appears to be. No idea what's going on there other than some sort of simulation I guess.
Also, anyone else get Walter White flashbacks when Aaron Paul said something to the effect "Everything I've done has been for you"

I got a real FREE GUY vibe from this episode. From what I gather, this version of New York is just another park/simulation, and Not Dolores is writing NPC stories.

I fell asleep on this ep. Not necessarily the show's fault but I have to rewind and watch again.

That was my thought as well. Though I thought of something different afterward, but I need to watch the episode again to see if it's possible. Could the Not Dolores scenes be a flashback to some time before season 1? Like maybe this woman eventually writes the whole Dolores and Teddy story for Delos, and the character designs for Dolores and Teddy are based on these real people.

This episode was decent, seemed on par with the quality of season 2 so better than last season. I hope they can keep some of the energy and mystery going forward and not go to some incoherent and forgetable plotline like season 3.

Yep. The irony of this was that the indexing system on HBO MAX didn't take me to the new episode. I clicked it and watched and was like shit, this episode was fucking awesome! It turned out I watched S1 EP1. I had no memory of it. Then I went and watched the new episode and outside of Ed Harris it was a complete bore.
