Ryan seems to be getting a good edit. Not sure he is actually doing much, but it's hard to tell what is really going on and who is running things

I think it was clear Ben decided to go one way, and so it wouldn't be a tie Lauren went with him. I liked Jessica when she wasn't around Cole so I would have rather he left.
My guess is that Ryan and Chrissy are kind of running things now, but Survivor is a different game than it was 10 years ago so that kind of perception can get you eliminated fast if you don't manage it well.

That Outback Steak feast was a rather shameless example of product placement.

The moment they started with the outback stuff... wow, it took a season filled with nobodies who I couldn't give a fuck about to levels of... wow. yeah. that was fucking low and I felt like turning it off at that point.

Second season of Australian Survivor that finished just as this season started was the best season of survivor I have seen. If you can see it I recommend it.
This episode was to produced and the product placement was over the top. I'm going out for a steak now.

Didn't they used to these type of shameless product placements years ago? I remember them having something like a "Charmin Hut" or some crap like that.

One season winners of a reward challenge got to see a movie that was conveniently released to theaters the same week.
They used to give away a car in reward challenges during some of the early seasons.
Jeff Probst rationalized in an interview that product placements are a way to reduce the impact of DVR viewers skipping commercials.

Last nights episode just cemented how bland the cast is this season...seriously, Jeff saying in interviews that y'all just wait...if you stick around it becomes great at the end really smacks of him trying too hard (and I really do like Probst as the host).
I would have preferred that they struggle a bit more to obtain food instead of the easy way out of giving them the Outback feast (yeah, I eye rolled at the product placement, but whatever) at the merge. What happened to contestants climbing trees to obtain coconuts, trying to find wild boar/goat/chickens to hunt for protein, doing a much more diligent job of constantly trying to fish? This group is not just bland, but lazy which is a cardinal sin in my book.
The wilderness guide saying he needs to chow down 8,000 calories a day...really dude, does he run a daily marathon? He comes off as a clueless whiny pussy on this show and it is not a good advertisement for his Wilderness Survival Guide business or whatever he does back in the states.
I would not hire him to "guide" me out of a wet paper bag.

Blatant product placement, but they've done it before. And at least it made some sense to be "going to a restaurant."
And yeah, I thought it was weird that that one tribe had no means of finding food whatsoever.

I'm just laughing that no one (that we know of) found the clue in the nails... or even looked for the cherish "Merge Advantage Clue" during the meal

They've been doing an Outback reward on Big Brother for a while now.
Survivor has always done product placement. I remember them plugging Craftsman tools and Pringles chips in the padt.

I pigged out on Chex Mix & Slim Jims after hearing five minutes of talk about the buttery goodness of the steak and the awesomeness of the Thunder From Down Under.
I expect future rewards to include tents from Dick's Sporting Goods and speedos from The Gap.
Ben seems to be bucking for an endorsement from some boot manufacturer.

I actually viewed the return of the blatant product placement as a improvement to the season. Their taking in the whole experience was for more interesting than the rest of the episode.
And the Outback restaurant made far more sense than gems like this:
Joe's antics this episode were a perfect example of just how bad this cast is compared to seasons past. He's trying to hard to be the next return villain "All-Star", but he's only succeeding in being an annoying fool. Really sad part is he might actually get his wish given how bad the rest of are and they need to have SOMEBPODY from this recent season. There's still hope the eventual winner shows something before the finale.
