9 of 13! Man, this season is flying by. They weren't kidding about minimal Betty. Surprised they even bothered with her weird fat episode.

Dang this season is going by really fast. It won't be long before we're having to wait who knows how long for another to begin . On the plus side we're getting closer to Breaking Bad Season Five .

Re: Mad Men -- "Dark Shadows" -- 5/13/12

Interesting title, ha. According to Wikipedia, Dark Shadows debuted on June 27,1966, so of course would fit right in with the timeframe of the episode(Revolver was released on August 5,1966). And of course, duh, I'm sure it has some double meaning for whoever seems destined to buy it this season. Maybe we'll get some shots of Pete lurking in the bushes outside of Rory Gilmore's house or sucking the blood out of her neck.

I'm sure it's not a coincidence either that it is timed for the weekend of the movie's opening. Maybe it's like a really clever product placement ad? (So that's how they paid for the Beatles song!)

BTW, programming note, the cast of Mad Men will be on "Inside the Actors Studio" on Monday, 5/14 at 7 pm(and then repeated a million times). Looks like they have pretty much all of the leads(what, no Jessica Pare or Aaron Staton????). The blog says they spent 6 hours taping it, that must really have been exhausting.

Thanks for the heads-up about Lipton. Got it set to record.

I love how Betty's life is terrible

Man, Don pitching that Devil idea was a far cry from the carousel in Season 1. Maybe Ginsberg was right to feel bad for him.

Re: Mad Men -- "Dark Shadows" -- 5/13/12

It was a little weird that they spent the entire episode focusing on and exploring every character's insecurities. I really liked it, but they're not usually that up-front and obvious about what the overriding theme of the episodes are. If nothing else, it was a different way for them to tackle an episode.

Odd episode. I really liked it though. I think this was the episode that Jessica Pare finally won me over. She's really, really good.

I like Ginsburg, even if he's kind of a dick. Fat Betty was better this time. And Rory Gilmore... oh my.

Re: Mad Men -- "Dark Shadows" -- 5/13/12

Just read this week's Time Magazine article about this season of Mad Men. They make several criticisms about the show being too crafted and unsubtle. It's the point I was making before, of course far more elegantly put. But I swear, I didn't make it based on that article; there's been a deliberate shift in the writing of the show this year. I'm not sure I'm a fan of this new telegraphing of themes.

I greatly disagree. I think they striked a perfect balance with themes on the show. There is so much there that is still underneath the surface. I think this has been the best season of the show.

I liked sally putting the screws to Betty when she was asked what Megan said about Anna. And the line at the Thanksgiving dinner.

Call me a crazed fan, but I utterly fucking love this show. I loved it's muted themes from years past and I love it's current colorful nuttiness. I just fucking love it.

Great episode. Anyone know who played Megan's acting friend who was going to audition for Dark Shadows?

Re: Mad Men -- "Dark Shadows" -- 5/13/12

I really didn't care for this week. Maybe it was the return of Ugly (Fat) Betty attending her weight-watchers meetings and weighing ounces of cheese cubes. Unless there's some issue with the kids, they should really just ignore Betty entirely. How else is she relevant to Don? Also, they have used Don's past enough and should move on to other plot lines. Everyone pretty much knows the deal. The highlight (of course) was Pete's wet dream which like an orgasm was totally enjoyable but fleeting. It was clear that she was the real motive for him doing that interview. It was pretty funny when Pete told Howard to go screw his side-dish and he would go home to his house and screw his wife. I'm surprised the guy didn't react more defensively and harshly.

Thanks again to TF for "Fat Betty"!

I'm so glad someone made that video! The first episode we saw her this season I immediately heard "Fat Betty" in my head - I think I even posted that line.

Loved her Thanksgiving plate.

Plus it will become even clearer to Sally what a divisive and manipulative witch she has for a mother.

Sure I still love the show -- it's still my favorite show on TV. But in a single episode, you had scenes depicting Don's insecurities, Megan's insecurities, Pete's insecurities, Roger's insecurities, Betty's insecurities, Sally's insecurities, Ginsberg's insecurities, Peggy's insecurities, Jane's insecurities, and maybe Bert's as well. It just seems like a little overkill, don't you think?

Too bad Joan and Lane weren't in the episode or their insecurities could be explored as well.

Joan was in the episode, near the beginning.

Roger is always good for a laugh: "Sterling, Campbell, Draper, Price. Can I help you?"

I'm partial to the line "Just how Jewish are we talking about? Fiddler On The Roof : Audience or cast?"
