I thought it was a weak episode. The plot didn't feel at all inspired and Chang and his child army really bring things down. I did have some laughs here and there but a lot of the jokes didn't land.
The problem for me with a show like Community is when a joke doesn't land it really stands out, like a bad sitcom joke. You start to notice the formula too: Troy being effeminate joke here, Britta sucks joke there. I feel like they're milking some things too much, like Britta's amateur psychology thing. If the dean wasn't so inherently entertaining his shenanigans would be getting old too.
I'm still a loyal fan; I thought the Law and Order episode was brilliant. But it seems like the mediocrity creeps in more with each season.

I think the difference between this show and others is that they swing for the fences every time out and that's why when something doesn't work, it really doesn't work, but when it does, it's a grand slam. I think it's great that they swing for the fences though, no other show does.

I liked the episode a lot but I agree that Chang's shenanigans don't fit.
The show is a live action cartoon but the characters are mostly grounded to an extent, the Chang character is just too far gone.

Does anyone else think Britta looks like a claymation character?

I guess that this episode's five major scenes were the five stages of grief:
Denial - Study room, Jeff didn't really care
Anger - The wake, they lash out at the school
Bargaining - The boardroom
Depression -The hospital, which was pretty melancholy
Acceptance - the last scene in the apartment.

Good one! Are you in bed with Harmon or something? I've noticed you in multiple threads now jumping on anyone that says anything negative about the show. If you really are a guy (you should look into changing that username, everyone thinks you're a chick. Your whiny attacks and overly sensitive nature don't help either) then grow a pair and learn to respect other's opinions. Now stop typing your angry response, take a deep breath, and don't respond. Just move along. Thank you

We'd have seen even more "Internet tough guy" posts, I imagine.

I can appreciate a show for taking risks, even if those risks don't necessarily make me laugh out loud. I wouldn't put the "Civil War" episode in my top 30 of funniest episodes, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it.
Some people prefer the ho-hum, no chance taking method of CBS sitcoms. More power to them.
