Deadwood Movies Are Not Happening (according to McShane)
http://www.cinematical.com/2007/09/3...crapped-those/
Yeah, I'm not happy about it either. Earlier today, I got a call from Ian McShane to talk about his new family fantasy movie, The Dark is Rising, and I asked him the big question Deadwood fans have been wanting to know for a while now -- was HBO just blowing smoke with its promise to wrap up the series with a couple of made-for-TV movies? Well, the answer is yes, McShane revealed to us. "I just got a call on Friday from ... a dear friend of mine, who told me that they're packing up the ranch," McShane said. "They're dismantling the ranch and taking the stuff out. That ship is gonna sail. Bonsoir, Deadwood." He went on to say that even if the movies were happening, there would be the strike to consider, and on top of that, he's committed to a filming schedule that would prevent him from doing them anytime before late next year anyway.
I told McShane that as a fan, I felt completely cheated by this move on HBO's part. "You feel cheated? Imagine how I feel!" he replied. "We all do. We all do. It was one of those one-off jobs that you do which has got an extraordinary creative brain behind it, and it kept getting better, and the actors were great. It was a fabulous place to be and work. It was a workshop cum theater cum film. It was an extraordinary time. But everything has to come to an end, babe." So, there you have it.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck!
I knew this would happen, but it was always in the back of my mind that the possibility was still there.

I called this right when everyone came out kissing HBOs ass that they would not do the show wrong.
I dont see how anyone could have seen HBO sticking to anything. Expect to see it happen to other shows so I advise not to bother with HBO. I cancelled mine mid-sopranos. Havent regretted it.

HBO is run by a bunch of fucking cocksuckers.
That is all
Terrible news. I'm really upset over this. Deadwood was brilliant television.

First, given the show the requisite response is, of course, cocksuckers!
Second, while I'm disappointed you can't have everything. Getting everyone back for the wrap up movies was going to be difficult at best anyway. I can't hate HBO either; they're giving us a fifth season of the Wire. That having been said JFC was weird, and Tell Me You Love Me is way too ponderous. I hope I will connect more with the next new show.

HBO does more than enough good for me to just write them off, but I am bummed that Deadwood won't get wrapped up (even if I expected as much).
The thing that burns is that JFC took its place or at least that's how it feels.

I'm not defending HBO, but I do think that Milch shares the blame. If I understood the situation correctly, HBO was willing to give Milch an abbreviated six-episode "season" to wrap up the series...but Milch insisted on a full season or nothing. Then it turned into a contest to see who would blink first.
Just saying that it's not as if HBO pulled the plug on the series cold without giving Milch a chance to provide some closure to the series. I think the whole "I'm-an-artist-and-I-won't-compromise-my-vision" argument went out the window when he settled on the equivalent of four episodes to conclude the saga ...unless he (or HBO or both) were just yanking on the audiences chains to either placate the fans or playing some sort of sick joke on us.
For HBO, it was a business decision (which is important if you want to continue to function), but for Milch it was more of an ego thing, apparently. While I would love to see the full final season of DW, I'd settle for six episodes rather than none.
Since the two tv movies are now officially dead, I guess the ending can be revealed. The historical Deadwood mining camp burned to the ground in its fourth year. Maybe others can speculate about what would happen to each character.

Despite what they claimed, HBO was never going to revisit Deadwood after they cancelled it.
Yes, it sucks, but I saw this coming.
