Judge Judy = Bea Arthur episode! Maybe around '96... Did this really exist?

There is a rumor that Bea Arthur (Maude/The Golden Girls) appeared on a Judge Judy episode.

Few people have claimed to see this, but most say they never did. There is a 1996 date at IMDB -- so this would have likely been when Judge Judy was a very new show.

Has anyone ever seen this episode? I thought Bea Arthur was fantastic in her television roles, so I'm just kind of curious about this.

I'd like to see it, but there are never re-runs that old and no where to view this online either.

I know that guy from the Sex Pistols was on one of the earlier episodes, but I never heard about Bea Arthur.

I tend to doubt it, but who knows?

Heh, I remember Rotten appearing on the show 4 or 5 years ago. She wasn't exactly too fond of him.

I hereby proclaim the Bea Arthur/Judge Judy video an internet legend, due to the fact the video cannot be found *anywhere*.

I don't know about the Bea Arthur clip, nor do I remember her being on the show, but here's the Rotten segment:

Not that I recall, unless it was in the '80s, when I didn't watch it regularly.

Re: Judge Judy = Bea Arthur episode! Maybe around '96... Did this really exist?

This is NOT a rumor. Bea Arthur did make an appearance on an early episode of Judge Judy and LOST.

I was living in GA at the time and watched JJ from day one. Must've been 96, the year the show debuted. One day "Hollywood personality Beatrice Arthur" (as the voiceover guy billed it) made an appearance either as a plaintiff or a witness regarding some animal cruelty thing. I don't remember if it was a circus animal or what--I was only 14 then--but I do remember she was very passionate about the case.but SHE LOST. Judge Judy ruled in favor of the defendant on some technical issue (standing to sue or something). They came back from commercial break and JJ broke the news to Bea that she couldn't rule in her favor. Bea responded by vigorously shaking her head and frowning in disagreement and there were a few grunts of dissent and that was the end of it. (Longtime fans of JJ will remember that JJ wasn't as curt or mean in those early couple of seasons; she didn't cut people off much; the editing was slower and she engaged in full conversations and heard people out; she didn't really get mean till about 2001, and i think she only did that at the behest of producers who figured out mean equals funny. So Bea got a fair hearing, even though she still lost.)

Anyway: some internet folks are saying Bea was a 'witness' on the show. I don't remember for sure, but my general recollection is that she was the plaintiff. She was at the mic for most if not all of the time on that particular segment.

What's interesting to me is the near-total evidence of this show online. It's like it's been wiped from the face of the earth. Who knows the reason for this. I was surprised to see that no video clips of it exist, tho it's reasonable to expect somebody will eventually upload an old VHS clip to YouTube and we'll have it. I talked about this today with my mom and our theory is that the network probably doesn't want to advertise the fact that their biggest star ruled in favor of a potential (alleged) animal abuser. JJ we must remember was not yet a megastar in 1996, nor were things as politically correct as they are now. I dont think JJ cares what the PETA people think of her--she who famously tells viewers, "Dont write me letters, not gonna read 'em, I'm too old," but I do think the network would potentially face flak if this little-known case from the dawn of JJ's TV career saw daylight in our histrionic times. Would also potentially be a small blight on JJ's legacy, as she, the mistress of all things right and just, in this instance sided with the villains and turned away a possibly legitimate animal-rights suit. I don't go in for conspiracy theories, but this is a thought.

Bottom line is don't let anybody tell you Bea didn't appear on JJ. She did.

Thx.

Look liked she was a witness. Strange there are no video of this on Judge Judy.

I've been watching (mostly fast-forwarding through) that bitch's show since the beginning, and I don't recall that episode. I remember an early litigant called her a "fucking bitch". There are too many wusses on the show nowadays. Some clever and quick-witted individual should go on and really rip her a new one, but they probably wouldn't air anything that makes her look less than magisterial.

Funny, I've watched the first 4 seasons of Lost 3-4 times and never noticed Bea Arthur.

She was the flash forward version of Sawyer. His change of appearance was just yet another question left unanswered in the finale. Most fans believe his "future plastic surgery" had something to do with avoiding the law, and possibly something to do with the number 1337, but we'll probably never know.

I'm pretty sure Frank Gorshin was on one of the trial shows a while ago. I can't recall which one though...

There is this though...

I think Mathis has had the odd celebrity on as well. One who comes to mind is the lead singer of a group that had a couple of big dance hits around 1990. "The power...(echo, echo, echo)" was one of the tunes.
