I was at Comic-Con panels early in the show's run where team Darlton stated the show was not sci-fi. Obviously that changed... how much more of what they intended changed as well?

And that's why listening to the writers is silly. They can say whatever they hell they want. Only what's up on the screen is going to matter.

Initially, I spent a great deal of time trying to think of scenarios where the show would resolve itself according to the "rules" the creators had established. As the show progressed, it became more and more obvious that they would not be able to resolve things without breaking their own rules...and then Season 5 confirmed it.

Season 5 was the first time you thought something was up?
Not the underground wheel that caused an island to vanish at the end of season 4?
Not a man that can talk to dead people?
Not Desmond's conscious leaping into his past self to influence the future?
Not visions of Charlie's imminent death time and time again no matter how often the course was changed?
Not a hatch built upon a pocket of electromagnetic energy that has the power to implode a giant geodesic dome and bring down airplanes?
Not a series of seemingly random numbers passed from island to radio signal to lunatic to other lunatic to a winning lottery ticket?
Not apparitions of dead people/animals?
Not a sentient monster made of smoke that rips trees from the ground or pilots from cockpits?
Nothing before Season 5, huh?

I'm fairly sure they have been qouted numerous times in print (S1-S2) that everything on the shown, to that point, was based in scientific theory.

Honestly, I had faith they had some kind of plan. Every season it got worse and S5 was just the last straw.

I think it's gotten better with time. I think the best episode, "The Constant", aired during an awesome fourth season. And season five just mixed it up further and added another great element to an already amazing story.

I seem to recall a lot of talk back then about a pinched nerve that could be 'reset,' so to speak, with such a powerful impact. Cancer and super sperm though? No idea.
Also who said everything can't be explained 'scientifically?' There are still 15 episodes and at this point, anything goes.
No offense to you personally Draven, as we tend to agree on a lot of movies, but it amazes me that you are still watching since you seem to have nothing but disdain for everything that happens on the show.
I could understand maybe catching the DVDs later just to see how it plays out, but making it a habit to watch weekly just come here to complain about nearly everything that happens on the show is a bit odd. And no, I'm not insinuating that these threads need to be a lovefest, but after 5 years it's time to take that broken record off the turntable so to speak.
Then again I guess it's no different than those that continue to punish themselves weekly by watching Heroes. I think that's more of a brotherhood thing though since everyone still watching is on the same sinking ship.

Re: LOST -- "What Kate Does" -- 02.09.2010
It's getting very close to "a wizard did it" for an explanation on all of this and frankly I expected better of a show that started out so strong.
I also continue to watch because I rarely bail on a show multiple seasons in (Heroes was an exception...holy hell that show got bad). I've stuck with Smallville even though I'm only watching it now to see how the writers get out of the corners they paint themselves into every week. Buffy was one of my favorite shows of all time but Season Six was a chore to get through.
Also, I like the characters and the actors who play them, I want to keep in tune with pop culture, my wife loves the show, I am curious how they will resolve it though I'm sure it'll be disappointing and lastly, I have a friend who works on the show and it's fun to see her name in the credits.
So that's enough reason to sit with my wife and surf the internet while she watches an episode, occasionally glancing up to see who has a new superpower this week. I'll stop commenting so much in the threads though, as it seems I'm relatively alone in my dislike of the current season so far.

If they would explain this show in a mundane way I would say fuck this show. However, the mysterious way they're explaining it has only gotten me more interested in it.

But the explanation doesn't even have to make sense at this point. It is so convoluted. That's too bad. It would be more impressive if they could explain it in a way that did make sense. Instead we'll get some vague "god vs. man," "it's all destiny," or "WIZARD" and everyone will freak out that they planned it all along.
