I wonder if some of those pop-up factoids/guidances comes from points of confusion/contention they find on the message boards in the week between?
"Ok, people, as you know the episode you just watched and took notes on airs tonight. Make sure you hit the boards you're responsible for monitoring and come back with additional notes we should address. We'll reconvene Thursday afternoon with a list to sent Damon and Carlton and they'll get back with us Saturday. Then we have 2 days to create the enhanced version. Get some rest before then."

It's disappointing, but I understand where they are coming from. If none of the characters have an interest in knowing the answer to something, and there is no natural way to integrate that revelation into the plot, it's pretty hard to address it without resorting to some artificial plot device.

It's obvious Dogen needs Jack alive, or else he wouldn't have bothered knocking the pill out of his esophagus. He was on Jacob's list, as was Sayid. Sayid dying caused a serious problem as evidenced by this alleged infection.
Either you buy what Dogen is selling or you don't. But to say that he should just come right out with everything in order to convince Jack and, by extension, us is a little premature. They have more pressing concerns.
It'll come when the trust is there.
And if I'm wrong and it doesn't by the end of the series, by all means, raze the ABC Studio offices to the ground.

I bought the issue of EW which claimed to have revealing theories and answers about Lost. Yea right. I was disappointed when the writers stated that they will not be answering every single question on the show. Only ones that are important to the characters. They even said it may not be possible to explain what the Island is exactly.
In other words, a lot of stuff will just be left to your imagination.

No kidding. The Rousseau/Clair parallel is probably one of the most obvious things they've ever done on the show and yet we're still arguing it. I think a guy could've come out in a smoking jacket, turned directly to the audience and said "See? Claire now resembles Rousseau! No ambiguity here, folks!" and there would still be arguments.

I'm pretty sure they have done this with Dogen and FJL/MiB/Esau. Have they started spilling their guts yet? No, why should they at this point in the context of the story.

I think one think to keep in mind is that there seems to be two distinctly different things happening here:
1) One seems to affect people who recently/mostly dead and then coming back to life possibly infected (Sayid and Claire) if Dogen is to be believed.
2) The other is that MIB/Smokey is taking the form of some people who are actually dead (possibly unburied) on the island without using their actual bodies (Locke, Yemi, Alex.)

I'm not so certain that it is the MIB that is responsible for the "infection" that they're talking about on the show. Maybe Jacob was the middle man between MIB and another entity and had to be out of the way for MIB to further his cause which is to ultimately bring down his true nemesis.
