That was pretty disappointing.

I enjoyed most of the clips, but I was really looking forward to a new episode, and felt kind of robbed with what aired.

Friends must have had like five or six clip shows. I think they had one in the fourth season and nearly every season that followed.

I tried to be all pissed about it and cop an attitude at the begining about it being "A goddamn clip show?! Are you serious?!" but then I just laughed at all the old stuff anyway. No harm done here.

What was the deal with Michael's hair? And I don't even think that was Dwight's voice at the end, lol

It was obvious this was just thrown together, oh well.

Still, my hatred for clip shows stays strong. The most striking thing about this episode is seeing how much weight Steve Carrell seems to have lost since the first season. Not that he's super skinny now, but he was much huskier when the show started.
I believe Seinfeld had 2. One for its 100th episode and then another right before the final episode aired.

I'm actually surprised there was even that many. Larry and Jerry don't seem like the type of people that would go for a clip show.

Yeah, that always surprises me about Seinfeld too. Not to mention they were both hour-long episodes if you include commercials.

The Highlights Of 100 comprised episodes 14 and 15 of the 6th Season and had a runtime of about 44 minutes.

The Chronicle comprised episodes 21 and 22 of the 9th Season and had a runtime of about 43 minutes.

The difference with the Seinfeld clip shows was that the clips were just presented as "Here's some clips"
They didn't try to incorporate them into a story as people's memories,

So, if NBC wants to pay them to produce episodes that require no original material and very little effort, why say NO?

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy The Office. But this episode really made it obvious to me how far the show has fallen. Some of the flashback scenes absolutely cracked me up (Jim's pranks on Dwigt mostly) even though I'd seen them dozens of times before. The show hasn't been that good in years. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the characters are starting to wear and just don't surprise me anymore.

Parks and Rec, for me, has taken over as the better show. I never thought that would be possible last season!

Congratulations, driving into the lake episode -- you are no longer the worst episode of "The Office".

I think that Frasier is the only sitcom (that I watched) that never had a clip show.

Do you guys just never watch re-runs? You really had such a hard time watching a few classic moments again from a show you obviously like?

We laughed quite a bit at this episode. I can never get enough of Meredith on casual day. I wish they had included the clip of Jan breast-feeding in the lobby.

Since no one seems to like clip shows, everyone must hate Lost, who seems to do a couple of them a year.

Lost doesn't dedicate an actual episode to it. They're more 'supplements' to the seasons.

This episode sucked hard. Jim and Pam's bullshit "music video" was the worst offense, though...the American Office has always pushed all hints of "this is a documentary" to the back, but having a sequenced set of clips set to music just threw everything out the window. It wasn't the first time this happened, of course, but it was probably the most blatant.

Also, how would Toby remember anything that happened during Beach Day?
He wasn't even there.

Sure I watch reruns. The Office is on 5 times a day. If I want to watch a rerun of the The Office I'll just watch TBS or FOX--both those channels have a couple episodes of The Office on every day. It is what it is and I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about it, but when I sit down on Thursday night to watch an episode of The Office that says "new" I'm really not interested in seeing 5 minutes worth of new material and a bunch of clips. I can watch the entire show that the clips came from whenever I want.

Hmm, I didn't even realize that but yeah, a clip show done the way they did it last night makes no sense within the "reality" of this show being filmed by a documentary crew.

But, eh, I laughed. Clip shows suck, but I laughed during this show. No harm, no foul.

Oh, wait, I mean... FUCK YOU NBC! #teamconan

So why not consider this episode a "supplement" as well?

Re: The Office -- "The Banker" -- 01/21/10

It basically was like a Lost supplement episode. Didn't they just add 3 episodes to the total run for this season?

Because it wasn't promoted as such. It was advertised as a new episode.

All clip and recap shows are labeled as "new" episodes. Also, this one had just as much new content as it did old.

Disappointed that it was a clip show, but fake Stanley was pretty funny and it was touching to see the Jim/Pam moments. Something about that moment where Jim comes back to ask her out always gets to me

But it's only the 4th best NBC show on Thursday nights.

I used to hate Community and Parks and Rec, but both have flown by The Office in quality.

And no complaints from me about the clip show part of it, I thought it was nicely done.
