Yeah...Mo'nique's speech was not heartfelt at all. Or emotional. Even thought I thought she did a tremendous and award winning performance in the film.

I guess it depends on the person. I've seen The Hurt Locker twice already, and I will gladly watch it again and again. I have no desire to watch Avatar ever again, I liked it, but I just have no urge to see it again. I gave it 7/10 - it's #35 on my list of 2009 films out of 199 films altogether for 09.
True, Avatar is populist fodder, while THL is not. Will either be remembered well a decade from now? Avatar will be known for whatever box office it eventually brings in, much more than for what it was about inside its running time. THL, OTOH, I don't know if it'll just be a well-received critical film from 2009, or something more. Unless Bigelow wins an Oscar for Best Director or it wins an Oscar for Best Motion Picture, its prospects for being in people's minds 10 years from now is rather suspect.

Did anyone else see Quentin Tarantino's and Jason Reitman's reactions to James Cameron winning Best Picture for Avatar? They both looked extremely pissed off. It was a priceless moment in TV history.

Don't worry, it will open wider. It just opened here in D.C. this past week in just three theaters. And with the Oscar nominations coming out in two weeks, with a Best Actor and Best Song nominations likely, it'll have a huge studio push.

Wow. What a interesting night. This means that Avatar has a really big push now heading towards the Oscars.
That guy who won from Inglorious Basterds..Talking about being a planet around QT's sun or whatever the shit he was talking about.
I loved how everyone was either drunk or high.
And who was the red head, when Mad Men won Drama, with the HUGE Breasts

People all over the Internet seem to think "elitist" = "arrogant", "droll" = "dull", and "penultimate" ="super-duper awesome BEYOND ultimate".
And god forbid anyone starts an thread about something/someone being "overrated".

Blecch. No love for (500) Days of Summer or The Hurt Locker, a win for Streep, a sappy Mo'nique speech, and further fellating of the box-office mark that's stealing the thunder from far better, smaller films.
I did appreciate the wins for Chloe Sevigny and Michael C. Hall though, along with the combo of Downey Jr.'s win AND his entertaining-as-hell speech.

Gervais kinda got pissed that the girl interviewing him asked him who does a better Michael Scott, him or Steve Carrell.

When Cameron, Reitman Tarantino, Bigelow, Jackson and the director of "Precious" (don't remember his name) all had breakfast together and Cameron made it clear that he's not into film festivals and catering to that audience, but instead looking outward to a global audience - something he reiterated in his speech for the film's win - Reitman clearly didn't enjoy Cameron's comments, having grown up the son of a "mainstream" director but himself a full-on film festival kind of guy. Tarantino is sort of in both worlds and seemed to have an easier time with that. Just my observation.

If this is true, I may actually have to watch at least one episode of this to see what I think of it.
