Just watched this episode last night -- It's been about 10 years since I've rewatched this series and am really loving this.
The only downfall with these great first season episodes is that I'm already anticipating the drop in quality for the middle of season 2.
I know a few people mentioned they disliked the music from the pilot episode, but I really love 'Laura's Theme' and the 'Main Theme' (not sure what it's called). Laura's theme is especially haunting

I never watched the show when it first aired since I was busy with college but since many of the outdoor settings are down the road from where I now live I've been watching them on cable and it's been neat to see so many places I recognize.

Well, damn. I knew the audio on my copy of the pilot was bad (high-pitched), but the difference between that and the first episode on the DVD is like night-and-day! The characters actually sound like people, not chipmunks!
Anyway, this was a great episode. Nice to see some actual scenes with Laura Palmer, even if they're just flashbacks.
The next episode is one of my favourites and one of the most-parodied from the series!

Just now watching this episode, but noticed there's currently no thread for S1E2. I'll probably watch back-to-back. Is the plan still to do one each Wednesday?

yes. I'll post the E2 thread in a few hours.
Based on this thread though, it seems like a lot of people stopped watching. Or they just don't feel like commenting

Did they recast the hotel's owner's kid, Audrey (I think), between the pilot and this episode?

I had just recently watched this, in a marathon of the Gold Box set. Still great. I am ashamed to say, this show is the reason I drink my coffee black.
Twin Peaks Season 1 Special Edition was the first set in my tv on dvd collection. I bought it the day of release and I still have it.
....this thread just reminded me I forgot to watch Fire Walk With Me.
