Good episode! Can't wait for the final two. I just wish they wouldn't give away so much in the upcoming scenes.

Another really solid episode. This has been an amazing season.

Like many here, I was very skeptical about how they were going to be able to drag this storyline out for the duration of the season, especially considering how quickly things were developing earlier in the season, but they have certainly kept a great tempo. Now I wish there were more than just 2 episodes left! Like Jimmy Smits last season, John Lithgow has really brought a lot to this season. It will be tough when/if we lose him from the show.

I remember a few years ago, when Lithgow won one of his Emmies for "30 Rock" he was belittling himself for winning an award for broad comedy. I think this year he's got a real shot at winning one for drama.

Awesome episode last night -- kept the momentum from last week's. Overall, I think this season has been pretty solid. It started off strong, stumbled for a few episodes in the middle, but has picked up steam here with the final episodes.

When they get the DNA off of the reporter's toothbrush, how are they able to match it and determine that she is related to Trinity when they never got Trinity's DNA?

I don't.
I really liked the way they were going with the Trinity stuff and Dex completely planting himself in his personal life, as it was a completely unexpected twist, which is kind of on par for the Dexter storytelling. However the way it's playing out now is a bit odd to me. Way too comic-booky. All of a sudden it's Batman vs. Joker or something. Even down to Dexter hitting Arthur with the shovel, saving the boy, and turning around to find Arthur gone. Really? He wouldn't have attempted to stop Dexter with his back turned? Then Dex just returns home at night after a crazy day at the office with the child napping thing all wrapped up with a nice bow. Oh our zany serial killer superhero! What a crazy day!
I'm hoping this episode was just a speed bump to how the final 2 shows play out.

I don't remember the saliva in the ash though.

They even included it in the opening "previously on Dexter" recap... The sweeps would have been utterly pointless if they didnt know whose DNA they were looking for.
Good episode. Most of the complaints seem to be putting a tad too much reality into it. Its a fine line as the show is definitely not realistic but also not fantasy. Thats why I also call it a pulp show. Dexter always skews realism if it is to the benefit of some kind of audience-serving action (thrills, moving the plot faster, etc).

Yeah I loved the episode too.
And agree, Dexter can't be 100% realistic, it has never been. But this season it's going more for a pulp show, taking more liberties. That's fine for me, I'm not looking for a 100% realistic show.

Also, what was done with the boy? How did he get home? How did the scene get taken care of? None of the end made sense to me. It was all just wrapped up entirely off screen with no clarifcation and topped off with it already being a feel good ending on the news by the time Dexter got home. Really?

Another possibility is that it could have been just as simple as Dexter making an anonymous 911 call from a nearby pay phone.
What happened after in between Dexter getting him out/Trinity leaving and the boy being reunited with his parents wasn't really important.
