Re: Smallville -- "Pandora" -- 11/20/09

I am loving this season of Smallville. Did they get better writters this season or did they just want to go out with a bang? This is what the show should have been all along.

Two of the writers and show runners jumped ship and went to Melrose Place.

Wait, I've been skipping Smallville but I just saw a promo featuring
Spoiler:
The JSA
really? Am I imagining this?

I looked at the spoilers and I guess it's true. I guess I'll have to watch at least these 2 eps.

The producers of the show have pretty much written themselves into a corner though. If they decide to come back another year, it's going to be hard to keep delaying the inevitable Superman reveal.

Wow.

My only compliant out of those pics
Spoiler:
Stargirl's mask looks bulky, and the actress looks too old. But I'm sure she'll still do a good job.

Just caught up with this episode.

Loved it. Especially the Clark and Lois hand holding. Anyhow, definitley the strongest season of Smallville since season 5 IMO.

I think that article has some good ponits to an extent. What I think fails to realize in my opinion is that this incarnation of the Superman mythos has shown long ago that it doesn't follow all of the "traditional" elements of cannon. Yes I know that varies, which is a large issue with what they believe to be true anyway.

For example, I seriously doubt that Lois/Clark/Superman will go through what Lois/Clark/Blur are going through now. I think it's a proxy since they aren't allowed to use the Superman name. As a result what we are seeing is different than what some of us might expect to see.

Right. I think they painted themselves in a corner by trying to have their cake and eat it too. If they want to forge their own mythos, by all means go for it. If they want to follow the traditional lore then do that. It's the mixing of the two that doesn't work.

Yeah, Smallville is pretty much an elseworlds look at a different spin in the Superman myth. You can't fathom that these characters will go on to do the Lois/Clark/Superman triangle, or that Clark and Lex will battle in Metropolis with Lex not knowing who Superman is. It's just it's own thing, which is cool. I, like you all, just wish they could go all the way with it. Even if Superman doesn't wear the classic uniform.

I'm still not putting it past the writers (although they are new) to pull Lex out of the closet and make him somehow forget.

Re: Smallville -- "Pandora" -- 11/20/09

Some old friends are coming back
Spoiler:
Big News: Michael McKean (Perry White) Is Returning To Smallville, Too!

We didn't think the news would be very far off: Entertainment
Weekly's Michael Ausiello is now also reporting that Annette O'Toole's husband, Michael McKean, is ALSO returning to Smallville later this season, playing the role of someday-editor of the Daily Planet, Perry White.

Perry has not been seen on Smallville since Season 3.

"We finally get to see the legendary introduction between Perry White and the intrepid Lois Lane," executive producer Brian Peterson teases. I know speaking for myself, I'm more concerned with seeing what Perry thinks of Clark's progress.

Ausiello has also gotten confirmation on when both Martha Kent and Perry White will be returning - it will be the next to last episode of the season, episode #9.21, for which we do not yet have an episode title.
