Desperate Housewives -- "Careful the things you say" -- 11/08/09

Desperate Housewives

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Susan thinks that Katherine might be Julie's assailant, and Lynette has her own suspicions as to who did it. Meanwhile, Angie invites a reluctant Bree and Orson to dinner, and she also confronts husband Nick about a secret he's keeping from her.

I had a mini marathon last night and I'm finally caught up with this. I have to say that I am so frustrated with this show. The Lynette storyline with her boobs and pregnancy is fucking stupid. Tom cheating in college is also stupid. Susan is Susan. Katherine is the one storyline that I feel is a fucking train wreck. The more weeks they drag out this obsession with Mike, the more the character will be damaged beyond repair...I think it's pretty much reached that point now. The one saving grace is definitely Gaby and Carlos. They crack me up every week.

There is a piece in this weeks Entertainment Weekly, one from a columnist who still loves the show and another that thinks Katherine turning Psycho and the new neighbors makes this season as dreadful as the second season.

I just read the piece and I agree 100% with Tim Stack's Loathe it opinion.

I'm not going to dump the show, there are some elements I still like primarily Gaby and Carlos.

There have been lots of annoying kids on TV over the years, but Gaby's little chunk is one of the worst.

This episode moved to the background about 20 minutes in

Gosh, was this episode dull. Even the Gabby-Carlos stuff sucked.

I still don't get since when is Julie and Lynette buddy-buddy? why would you confide something in your mom's best friend that you don't want her to know about?

The whole cop/high school friend was just dumb.

Bree needing recipes from Adriana? really? That is what the writers can think up?

About the only interesting thing about this episode was seeing Susan behind bars.

I couldn't get past the way they handled Bree this ep.

If the neighbor could cook Italian, most people would have just hired her for that one catering job, rather than stealing her recipes.

If Bree is a bigtime cookbook author, why is she still doing catering jobs and has no employees helping her???

And why was Bree so desperate to do the catering at someone's party? Isn't she supposed to be as big as Martha Stewart in the show?

Re: Desperate Housewives -- "Careful the things you say" -- 11/08/09

^^ I was thinking about the Bree thing during the episode as well. I can understand why she's still in catering -- to an extent -- but don't understand why she has to do everything herself. And if she made so much money before, I'm a bit surprised she stayed in Wisteria Lane. And why would she steal recipes from someone and risk her reputation? When the flash-forward first happened, like Howiefan said, they set her up to be Martha Stewart type, but it seems like her money and influence have been taken back down to where she was previously. Weird.

Susan is always the weak link of this show and her storyline was again this ep. The Katherine thing continues to be a travesty for a once great character. I actually don't hate the neighbors, but when crap is swirling all around you, it's hard not to get a little dirty and smelly as well.

Agree that it was a rather dull episode this week. Nothing much else to add...

Re: Desperate Housewives -- "Careful the things you say" -- 11/08/09

Ana and Celia have been absent in recent episodes. They leave us to watch the little witch with a bad attitude. I felt like I was watching last week's episode when it came to Gaby's storyline, because Juanita cut up then as well. When Ivana began helping Juanita with her work, the least Gaby could've done was clean up her own house in exchange. But she'd rather go over a stranger's house and clean their floors after the fact?!?

Lynette and Tom were in the background this week, but it was nice to see them stand up for Julie and I'm glad that Lynette didn't cave in and hide from Nick after he threatened her.

The Susan storyline was terrible and honestly, I love Kathy Najimy but her acting was pretty bad.

I mentioned this in a thread about the show several weeks ago. She was the most mature and level-headed character on the show until Marc Cherry decided to make her a homewrecker.

This is the first time in the series run where I'm really left wondering what the hell the writers are thinking. Its becoming really hard to side with any of the characters

I take the Loath side too. Really hate what they are doing with this show.

You are far from the only one who is hating what they're doing with the character of Julie.

Re: Desperate Housewives -- "Careful the things you say" -- 11/08/09

The writers have butchered the timeline with Julie's relationship with Nick. They just moved into the neighborhood on the season premiere (Julie moved back at the same time), and Angie mentioned Danny starting school, which fits. Julie tutoring Danny long enough for her to run into Nick at a restaurant, start dating, have sex, think she's pregnant and breaking up with him cannot take place in that short period of time.

I remember some of us speculating that she could've had the affair before the family moved to Wisteria Lane, but they made it clear last night that the root of the affair was Julie tutoring Danny.

I feel bad for Susan in this situation because a lot of details unfolded last night, and Susan hasn't a single clue about what went on with her daughter and Nick Bolen.
