Re: Dancing with the Stars - Season 9 - "Top 7" (11/2-3/09)

I find myself less and less interested in this show. Anyone else? I am thinking about dropping it. It would certainly free up some DVR conflicts on Mondays and Tuesdays. At the this point, the only celebrity I am remotely interested in seeing is Kelly Osbourne. I suppose I could always look up her dances online to see how far she goes in the competition.

I haven't watched yet..
I can not believe that at this point this show is FREAKING 2 hrs!
They wonder why the ratings are dropping: Quit the 2 hr marathons and
cut it down to once a year.

Same here. The 2 hours is serious overkill. Too many competitors this season. It takes up valuable tuner space. Last night I only watched the first hour so I could open up that tuner for football/baseball at 9. The only people I'm interested in are Kym/Donnie, Karina/Aaron and Joanna/Derek.

I've nevered bothered recording the results show.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - Season 9 - "Top 7" (11/2-3/09)

I'm still enjoying the show and 2 hours is fine by me with a DVR. Only once a year?? Blasphemy!

Donny is a great performer and Mya always is a delight to watch. Aaron had a great performance with his kicks this week. Joanna was very dramatic in her rhumba. I don't necessarily care about the star factor. The performances and the dances are what keep me watching the show.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - Season 9 - "Top 7" (11/2-3/09)

The praise that Michael is getting is nauseating, he's the probably the worst ex-NFL player in terms of dancing that they've casted so far.

They overpraised Kelly as well, so she danced without the nerves, but the dancing she provided wasn't all that good, either.

I think there are too many stumbles each week from the remaining contestants, the dance quality is suffering.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - Season 9 - "Top 7" (11/2-3/09)

I agree this show is suffering from bloat. I've completely given up on the results show... it barely has enough real content to fill a half hour, let alone an hour. The lengthy and redundant clip packages, the pointless fluff segments, and the behind-the-scenes filler belong on abc.com, not eating up prime time airtime. And the two hour shows are ridiculous... even American Idol has the sense to scale it back to an hour when the time comes. Loading the dancers up with all these team dances every week to fill up airtime just seems to hurt the overall quality of the individual routines and increase the chances of injuries.

I agree 2 hours is too long at this point. I think I lost some interest when Natalie got cut. Should be better next week. I hope Mark makes it this week despite his low score. I think Joanna was the best this week.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - Season 9 - "Top 7" (11/2-3/09)

I don't disagree about the "bloat", but I imagine ABC saves a bundle, since they don't really have anything to do with the half-hour thay'd be stuck with. "Samantha Who?" was only marginally successful (and couldn't survive on its own), and couldn't justify the cost. They're not about to go to one hour, -the show wouldn't pay for itself in ad revenue.

I think one of the big problems has been "Chemistry". There's nobody that really ignites the screen, -a team that makes an exciting package. Mya is terrific but she generates no heat with Dimitry; oddly enough, Cloris Leachman pointed out one of the problems, -Mya pretty much never looked at Dimitry during last night's dance. Several of the Pros look pissed off or slightly annoyed with their "Star", -Lacey, Mark Ballas. Kelly would be a lot more engaging if she weren't paired with Louis, -VanAmstel is a talented guy, but his vibe and look, -well, he seems like he should be in an 80s action movie threatening Bruce Willis. I expected Mark DeCascos to be the dark horse of the competition but he comes off like a perfectly nice guy who's just a little annoying, and Lacey's interaction with him seems to reinforce that. Of course, Aaron's neediness doesn't exactly take the edge off Karina, if you know what I mean.

Re: Dancing with the Stars - Season 9 - "Top 7" (11/2-3/09)

They could have had the 7 from last night done in an hour.
Two are going home this week and I see on my Dtv guide that it's on
for TWO hours next week as well.
5 dancers in 2 hours. They can easily do 2 dances each in ONE hour.

DRG said it well, it's all just too much.

I will most likely not watch last night's episode. In fact, when I get home I'll probably just delete it. Even with FF'ing thru most of it, I just don't have the time to sit through it. Or maybe I'm just not that interested?

I only watched the first hour (so I missed Joanna's dance), but I'd recommend watching Karina/Aaron's dance. It was very good. Near the end of the first hour I believe.

Ballas/Hough should never sing again.... ever.

Fuck Me.... that was horrible.

For some reason, I thought they were suppose to be a rockband.

Ballas/Hough are a pop band. That performance was pathetic. A shame as most of their stuff is enjoyable bubble gum pop. You wouldn't know it from that mess of a performance. Can't imagine anyone would want to listen to them after that.

I was hoping for Mark to make it to the free style.

So much for that.

Definitely dropping this.

Did Michael Irvin blame the economy for his elimination tonight? I heard him mention it as he said his goodbyes but I had no idea what he was saying.

No. Tom complimented him for bringing his dance team together when they appeared at odds with each other. He mentioned the need for people to pull together when times get tough and referenced the failing economy.

Ah, ok. It still seems like an odd thing to say on the show, even in that context.

Sing? I could barely make out 5 words. It was pretty horrific.

Michael and Mark are gone as expected. C'est la vie.

The 2 hour performance show extravaganza continues!

He was clearly pretty much making it up as he went along, not knowing what to say, -he was also trying to address why fans voted for him (which he attributed to people appreciating the hard work he put in).
