"V" -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- Premieres 11/03/09

V 1

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Massive spaceships hover over Earth's major cities to enable Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of an alien race known as 'the Visitors,' to deliver a message of peace in the pilot that kicks off this reimagining of the 1980s sci-fi series.

I'm getting a sense that some of you are dying to talk about this show now. So, here's a thread for the Pilot even though it premieres tomorrow.

Starring:
Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost)
Morris Chestnut
Scott Wolf (The Nine, Party of Five)
Joel Gretsch (The 4400)
Lourdes Benedicto (24, The Nine)
Laura Vandervoort (Smallville)
Morena Baccarin (Firefly)

The Executive Producer and Creator of this is Scott Peters who worked on the 4400.

Again, 4 episodes will air then the show will go on hiatus.

I'm looking forward to it. Good to see some good early reviews.

The 4400 was a good show IMO. It kind of limped to the end, but for the most part it was a good sci-fi serial drama.

I got bored with 4400 after 3 or 4 episodes and dropped it, so I'm hoping this is much better than that.

With the big floating spaceships, this looks like a quick cash-in on the popularity of District 9. I will pass.

Great premise, great first season but totally jumped off the deep end in season two.

I disagree the series has been in development for well over 1 year even before anyone even heard of District 9. Even the original mini-series had big floating spaceships. ABC didn't officially greenlight the Pilot until January of this year.

I think you took the Groucho bait. District 9 itself has been compared to the original V and Alien Nation.

I'm excited about this show too. I'm getting a little bit tired of FlashForward and I'm thinking that it may be canceled so I'll try with this show. I'm a big fan of the original, at least of the first/second season or something like that.

LOL yeah, pretty much all the big floating spaceship movies (District 9, Independence Day, etc) stole from the original V. It's an ongoing joke.

Arthur C. Clarke's ghost is on line 1 for you.

The image of the giant ship hovering over the UN is straight out of Childhood's End.

so is this a series or a mini series? I thought it was a mini series but now it sounds like a regular series.

It is a regular series, but they are only airing the first 4 episodes now and it won't be back until March.

So, it will end up as a mini-series.

Nashville ABC affiliate isnt showing this until 12:05am the first 3 nights due to a Tennessee Titans weekly update show. The team is 1-6 so i figure they could finish all the highlights for the week during the first commercial break but guess I will have to wait and DVR it.

Just re-iterating that having seen the pilot, I thought it was pretty decent and worth a watch. I'm definitely in, especially since I have nothing else to watch on Tuesdays.

Re: "V" -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- Premieres 11/03/09

Entertainment Weekly gave it a B+ saying it was equal parts escapism and societal issues of today (terrorism and such), but because of the schedule of this thing (playing now and then after Olympics) and the other shows around, it won't last past it's initial run.

Re: "V" -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- Premieres 11/03/09

Variety gave it a pretty good overall review as well.

I was initially skeptical but a lot is starting to point to this actually being pretty good. I know I'll be watching.

Re: "V" -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- Premieres 11/03/09

I can't understand, with all of the positive notice this is getting, ABC wants to put it on the backburner until March after this month. Do you think they might slip in a new ep. in late January, or do you think they just want to kill it?

I wonder if they are trying to mimic what Fox did with "Glee". IIRC, V originally wasn't supposed to air until midseason anyway, so they did move it up to a November debut for sweeps, which I guess is a sign of confidence.
