Agree the show has gotten more outlandish. Normally that would irk me, but Curb's overall tone kind of allows for it, I guess. Or maybe its just that the breaks are so long, I'm left starving for the show and thus more forgiving.
I am with you on this. I am not a Seinfeld fan, have never seen an episode and don't plan on it anytime soon. I thought it was a dumb idea to incorporate it into Curb. Just give me the typical Curb show and I am fine. I have been satisfied by this season so far.

You think it's a dumb idea, yet you've never seen an episode of Seinfeld? Makes sense...

I don't have to see Seinfeld to think it's a dumb idea. Do you see any other shows currently on incorporating old sitcoms into there shows. Curb is a great show without that overrated mess. Go eat your Seinfeld DVD's they been calling for you.

Why would the hat girl tell the Stonemason Larry killed the swan? They didnt even know each-other.

Regardless ... Great episode. Super Dave is always gold, and Larry's dad is a bonus!

BTW, thanks for the abusive PM. Keep demonstrating your class, but don't put it out in public for everyone to see...

And you continue to not read what I said. A person doesn't have to see a show to know whether it is a good idea to incorporate it into another show years later. Especially a good show like Curb. It is a waste to do that to a show like Curb. I don't care about Seinfeld and the washed up actors that were on it.

Your welcome for the PM you deserved it.

I thought it was cousin Andy's wife as well. She was upset that Larry wouldn't pay for her to go to cosmetology school.

PS wasn't the stonemason wearing the hat she made for him?

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm - "The Black Swan" - 11/01/09

I don't get the criticism that this season has been "too outlandish." The Cop/Napkins/Lineup bit was the over-the-top bit and it was the only thing this season that was down-right terrible.

How is the stonemason any different from the manager who kick Larry out for folding the sweaters "incorrectly," the newspaper misspelling Beloved Aunt as Beloved Cunt, the jewelry shop that has a clean-shaven code, or the car dealership letting Larry sell cars as a test?

I deserved an abusive PM because I disagreed with you? Are you a child? Next time, do it publicly. I guess you wouldn't do that, because you'll get suspended. That really doesn't mean it's acceptable to do it via PM.

Back to the issue... Calling Seinfeld an overrated mess without having ever watched an episode makes sense, does it?

And the issue of it being a dumb idea... Larry's involvement in Seinfeld is referenced frequently in Curb, since Curb is a fictional show, based loosely on Larry David. Seinfeld was clearly a very popular show. Not to you, but who really cares? Most people here were pretty happy to hear there would be a Seinfeld reunion of sorts on Curb. A real Seinfeld reunion is extremely unlikely, so they took an interesting approach to it which will give many people a bit of what they're after without having to go the whole distance. All the while they maintain a quality show. That is hardly a dumb idea.

It just sounds to me like you're bitter because you won't get any of the references involving Seinfeld.

No, he got that one from Jose Eber.

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm - "The Black Swan" - 11/01/09

Well i think the Seinfeld idea is good and some of the conversation between Jerry and Larry this season have been spot on funny. I think that in order to have a fully rounded opinion it would be a good idea for the poster to check out an episode or two of Seinfeld before jumping to conclusions. And i would certainly not say that they are all washed up actors. They have not had an easy time since the end of Seinfeld, but certainly not washed up just yet. I thought this was a pretty good episode. I agree with people saying the Mason found out due to the Hat woman.

I'd like to be washed up with 40 million in the bank (like the trio is).

I give Larry credit that he's not basing the entire season around the reunion. He continues to do HIS show. Plus, the weakest episode this year was when the foursome was on it.

Andy ordering the breakfast was killing me. Son of a bitch!

Larry's killing of the swan was awesome.

Good ep overall. Can't believe only 3 left.

I really don't care about the "Seinfeld reunion". It's a nice plot point, but I really give a shit about Larry's crazy travails. This has been an absolutely great season. Only one bad one in the bunch ("the bare midriff episode") but the rest have been stellar.

You can't have enough Funkhouser, in my opinion. Also loved the Japanese owner and the "wife with the big mouth" line.

This just reminds me you can't please everyone all the time. I am not a fan of Funkhouser at all, although I do love Larry's reactions to him, I just can't stand the actor. And I thought "Bare Midriff" was a highlight.

Different strokes...

I'd forgotten about that. That was a great line! And Jeff countering with "I don't even bring her around any more. Out of respect."

Re: Curb Your Enthusiasm - "The Black Swan" - 11/01/09

I always find it funny that there are people who watch Curb Your Enthusiasm that didn't watch Seinfeld. I mean, it doesn't surprise me, I just always figured that most people who watched Curb would have at least been fans of Seinfeld.

I don't see any other shows incorporating "old" sitcoms into [b]their[b] show, but I also can't think of another show that follows the exploits of the co-creator of one of the most successful sitcoms in history. It seems natural for them to do the Seinfeld Reunion in the show and even more natural given Larry's true motive.

Curb Your Enthusiasm takes place in the real world and there are constant references to Seinfeld, whether it be Larry attempting to drop his name in reference to Seinfeld to be seated at a table, someone telling him how much they love the show, him giving Shaq all the episodes on tape, or any number of other references. In fact, Jerry, Julia, and Jason have all appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm prior to this season. Larry pitched a show during one of the seasons to Jason and then Julia about an actor in a Seinfeld-like show that couldn't find work afterward, much like they were experiencing in real life.

I also wouldn't call them all washed-up per se, especially Julia as she has experienced great success with The New Adventures Of Old Christine. And if they are washed up, what a way to be washed up. Starring in one of the most famous and recognized sitcoms of all-time, really something to be ashamed about.

I'm thinking that the Seinfeld reunion will be the focal point of at least two of the last 3 eps. They'll probably begin filming it in the finale. I would like to see them do something where we get to see the cast back in character for a few minutes.

The stonemason thing was just not even believable in the world of Curb. The guy had no business talking like that or, at least, not realizing that ripping on someone that the customer happens to admire was very rude. The best shows are where things get out of control without it seemingly being only a plot device for something later on.

Super Dave really looks bad.
I didn't think the Stonemason stuff was way out of line. We've seen crazier on Curb. I think last week with the huge stream of piss and the grabbing the fat as he fell off the building was much, much more unrealistic. Funny, yes... but like others I think this show is funniest when grounded in realism.

I didn't like the wife yelling at Larry for not paying for her cosmotology school. That was ridiculous. I know this show likes to have Larry take a stand against ridiculous social conventions but this just came off weird.

I figured it was because he was standing right next to Funkhauser and Larry when Larry showed Funkhauser the email from Jeff.

Pretty good episode.
Funny how Larry's no introduction rule backfired on him although I'll disagree that it's a ridiculous social convention. I know someone who never introduces people and it is pretty annoying.

CYE wasn't The Producers either, but that certainly played a large role throughout the season.

Overall, a low key episode, not bad, I did enjoy that most of it took place on one location, and that Marty was actually on Larry's side for once.

Not for nothing but if you get so pissed at someone in a forum that you gotta PM them to vent your frustrations, it's time to step away from the Internet for a few days.
