CSI: Miami -- "Bolt Action" -- 10/05/09 -- Pure Comedy episode

CSI Miami

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

An investigation into the mysterious deaths of three volleyball players who dropped dead on the court. Meanwhile, Calleigh testifies against Delko, throwing his future as a CSI into question. Amanda: Cheryl Ladd. Jacqueline: Tia Carrere.

Okay, did any of the very few CSI Miami fans here watch this episode last night? It was pure comedy how ridiculous this episode was.

** 3 Beach Volleyball players drop dead in the middle of a sunny day apparently the victim of eletrocution from lightning. Electrical wires were planted underneath the sand connected to a lightning rod at a shed several hundred feet away from the volleyball tournament.

** I don't know how factual that Miami actually has lightning strikes in the middle of a bright sunny day.

** I couldn't believe when Eddie Cibrian's character was explaining the science behind how the lightning strike happens and how it killed the victims to Natalia and he could actually say it with a straight face.

** Interesting casting in this episode: John Terry (Jack's Dad from Lost), Cheryl Ladd and Tia Carrere as two hotty Cougars who are suspects. Christian Clemenson, Jerry from Boston Legal, is apparently the new ME (at least temporarily) And Omar Miller from Eleventh Hour is now a series regular.

** Are there actually Cougar Bars?

** It was good to see Delko back in the show even though I know his time is winding down.

At least this episode brought several chuckles after how stupid last week's episode was. This show definitely ranks several levels below Las Vegas and New York.

That was Tia Carrere? She's looking rough.

Tia didn't look that bad. I mean she lost alot of baby weight when she was on Dancing with the Stars a few seasons ago.

Cheryl on the another hand looks like she's been under the knife for a nip and a tuck. Although I still think she's quite hot being her 50's.

That wasn't plastic surgery, it was the usual 'blur the "mature" women's wrinkles' visual effect employed on CSI for Marg Helgenberger, Ugly Betty for Vanessa Williams and Judith Light, and here on CSI: Miami for Emily Procter and guest stars like Ladd. That effect has been done occasionally on Caruso as well and of course was taken to an extreme with the flashback episode.

When it was done on CSI in past seasons, it was sloppy because you would see a close-up of Helgenberger's face, then the camera would move to an object (piece of evidence or test sample) she was holding and the blur effect would move with the camera, and not stay on her face.

Interesting, I didn't think about that.

I agree, there was a whole lot of stupid flying around in this episode.

* The killer's plan depended entirely on lightning striking exactly when and where he needed it to on a sunny day, without affecting other people just a few feet away.
* The killer relied on a few hands of copper sulfate turning dry sand (an insulator) into a conductor. If the sand had been wet, maybe I could buy it.
* No one noticed the killer burying several hundred yards of electircal cable under the sand. On a public beach. Yeah, he did it at night, but there is bound to be a few people walking on the beach in Miami, even at night.
* Do you have any idea how bulky and heavy several hundred feet of electrical cable is? How did he get it to the beach and unload it by himself?

I continue to love "CSI: Miami," for the same reason that I own the Ed Wood box set. But thank god "Castle" is on Monday nights so I have something decent to watch.
