People wondered why he wouldn't get married, especially after the birth of their son, six years ago.
Maybe Letterman knew that he wasn't done pursuing other women, and so never subjected himself to having to be cheating, unfaithful husband.

If you believe in The Ten Commandments, then you believe that adultery is a sin. Letterman is not an adulterer, so I have no problem with his behavior.

That's a level of proof never required by Letterman before charging ahead in the past, so why should it be now?

He had no connection to Letterman, but he's likely good buds with Dan "fake but accurate" Rather. Probably the reason Letterman is willing to make this all public is knowing that the "evidence" is a bunch of stupidly cobbled together photoshopped images and word processor faked memos.

I really didn't care to hear any more details after tonight, but if Stephanie is involved in any way, I must admit I'd want to know. I always had a little crush on her.

I always did think Dave was playing with fire having 3 pretty hot, young female assistants during that time period. At least one of them is still with him. He wished her a happy birthday a few nights ago on air. You'd see her from time to time when Dave used to do comedy bits with Stephanie.

I wonder what kind of evidence this guy could have gotten from Stephanie (or anyone), because certainly just her telling him about it couldn't have been enough for this guy to ask for 2 million dollars.

I know very little about this kind of thing, but if I threatened someone like that and he showed up to meet me with his attorney (twice), I would think the law wouldn't be too far behind.

RadarOnline.com has also learned that the alleged extortionist lived with the woman who David was involved with.

The affair happened a long time ago, before his son Harry was born, and before he got married, but he was living with his wife to be at the time.

Halderman needed money police say and decided to target Letterman.

The woman still works on the show but is no longer involved with David.

Well, if it really did end before Harry was born (or conceived), Letterman would have been nearing his mid-50's and the extortionist would have been in his early 40's.

Of course, she would have been around 24 or 25 at the time.

I think this is the first time her name has been brought up publicly about this, they just misspelled her last name. If she really still works at the show, I can't see how she won't be hounded by the TMZ's and 1000's of others everywhere she goes now.

WNYW-TV in New York has obtained the search warrant in the extortion plot that led to a sting and two meetings between Halderman and investigators.

According to the warrant, Letterman was identified as "Client 1."

-In the package he received, Holderman allegedly includes treatment for a screen play with supporting materials.

-The supporting materials had copies of parts of a diary and personal correspondence belonging to Holderman's girlfriend, Stephanie Burkett, a former assistant to Letterman.

-A reference is made to "Client 1's great personal success and his beautiful and loving son."

-Holderman allegedly says he was publishing a book that had a lot more documents that would be incrementing including photos, letters and emails.

Dave's always been a really private guy. I'm not only shocked that he would go public with it, but that he would do it DURING HIS SHOW!! That's just not the appropriate place. Call a press conference or something to address the issue, but don't break the news on a comedy show.

Yeah. Although I assume the 'scandal' isn't the cheating, but banging the staffers. Not a big deal IMO though.

As for your suggestion, there's a ridiculous preconceived notion in this country that a politician must be married w/ children ('family man') to be a good public servant.

So Dave cheated on his girlfriend with staff members on his show? That's the bulk of this "scandal"? Not a scandal, folks. While I don't applaud his behavior, at least he came clean and didn't participate in an illegal act. Agreed though that a press conference would have made more sense.
