Decent episode. Seems like it could be really funny after the show figures out whether it wants to be comedy or drama. Courteney looks really good too

Yeah, because that's something that held Scrubs back That's probably why I liked it better than any of the straight comedies out.

Yes, but when Scrubs switched back and forth, it really swung to comedy or drama. This show is just wavering in the middle between the two extremes.

3 pages and no GIF of Courteney flashing?!

Also, when did she drop the "Cox-Arquette"?

I finally watched this last night. I expected it to be crap, but it actually wasn't too bad. There are some definite tone problems that need to be worked out. I thought the ex-husband was just way too over the top, and the neighbor wasn't that much better.

I went into this w/ low expectations, mostly because of the star, and I was pleasantly surprised. The wife liked it, too.

The son is good, even though the tone of his voice is odd.

+1

Agree totally about the ex and the neighbor. I hope that they are seldom used supporting characters.

I prefer the spelling in the thread - COUTNEY. That makes me giggle.

LOL, I noticed the typo the day after I created this thread.

Jadzia:
Can you fix the thread title to "Courteney" please?

No way does this make a season.

Pure crap, she should be embarrassed with this...I know I was watching it.

Yes, I totally agree with you. I remember thinking while I was watching the you that it would have made far more sense if the neighbor and ex-husband were the same person. Otherwise, why does she care so much about who he dates?

She doesn't care who he dates, she cares that she has to see his successful escapades every morning while she's gone 5 months without any action. It's just jealousy.

If she doesn't care who he dates, there would be no reason for her to be jealous in the first place. I'm not saying she cares for/about the neighbor guy, but most people who are merely jealous will just bitch to their friend and aren't going to openly confront their neighbor about something like that. That just rang way false to me. If it had been established that they had dated before or if the neighbor was her ex, I could understand her overreaction of his dating situation a lot more.

They made it clear she was jealous that he was able to rebound from his own failed relationship way faster than she was. It didn't help that she would see him and his conquests in the morning. I thought it was pretty simple

Re: Cougar Town -- New Series with Courteney Cox -- Debuts 9/23/09

^^ I think we're basically arguing the same point here. You might be reading too much into me using the word care. I'm aware of all those things you said, but taking it to a level where you are confronting your neighbor about his lifestyle, to me, is going beyond just mere jealousy. Perhaps obsession would be a better word?

Actions speak louder than words. I'm jealous of my neighbors because they keep their lawns in better shape than I do. That doesn't mean I'm going to confront them about it when I see them mowing their lawns, even though I have to see them watering it every day!

Well, if watering the lawn was something you wanted to do, but couldn't actually accomplish and you got tired of seeing them succeed every day then, yeah, I can see the similarity.

I have a feeling they are building up the neighbor as a long-term sexual tension "will they or wont they" love interest.

He didn't bother me because I really enjoy that actor from other series (Pepper Dennis, Brothers & Sisters etc.) He usually plays a character like that who spars with the female lead character.

I guess I didn't see her getting laid as something she couldn't actually accomplish. Rather, it seemed like something she just preferred to bitch about. It was clear her friend would try to get her to go out all the time and Cox's character would always say no. There were obviously quite a few guys at the bar that would have been interested, judging by the professional cougar that also was there and acted like she never went home alone. I got the impression that Cox's character hadn't really been trying to get any.

Yes, I can see them going that route as well.

Re: Cougar Town -- New Series with Courteney Cox -- Debuts 9/23/09

the Kid is playing the exact same character as he did in Aliens in America !

There he was a kid embarrassed by his ethnic exchange student, now he's a kid embarassed by his sexual mother

Luckily he plays it not bad

Overall good enough for me to give it another few eps

However, I think MF has a better chance of sustaining a series and growing into something that's as funny as it can be, whereas Cougar Town seems like it would be better as a theatrical release.

Either way, I'm watching them both.
I agree on your first point. I watched MF first, which I found funny, yet "laugh on queue". Half way though I though - this is good, but not good enough to watch on a weekly basis. Following that I watched this and was surprised how much I was laughing. Also I was surprised to see Ian Gomez and that chick from Scrubs show up as the friend/neighbor; in addition taking a few minutes to figure out that was Busy Philips.

I think the relationship with the son is very odd, but overall it was funny. I might watch again in the future, but I'm not a big sitcom fan and my time is tight as it is.

Wonder if Bill Lawrence's wife, Christa Miller, had a little pull getting Ian Gomez (from the Drew Carey show) on the show.
