The Forgotten -- New Series w/ Christian Slater -- "Pilot" -- 9/22/09

Forgotten 2

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

This crime-drama series follows the Forgotten Network, volunteers who try to identify the victims of unsolved murders. In the opener, the remains of a woman are found in a wooded area. Alex Donovan: Christian Slater. Candace Butler: Michelle Borth.

This is a Jerry Bruckheimer production. The original Pilot featured an actor named Rupert Penry Jones (Who?) and Reiko Aylesworth formerly of 24. ABC replaced both leads with Slater and Michelle Borth.

Anyways, looks interesting. Did anyone check this out?

I don't know why, but I just have an aversion to Christian Slater. If it gets good word of mouth, I might give it a look.

I caught most of it -- just another procedural -- and not a very strong one at that, imo. Coupled with the (mostly) negative reviews, I doubt I'll tune in again.

Re: The Forgotten -- New Series w/ Christian Slater -- "Pilot" -- 9/22/09

It was just ok.

I don't really see why the network went with this theme for a show. It really does play out like a bad knock off of Cold Case with a little bit of Without A Trace throw in to the mix.

The main problem, IMO being some really bad heavy handed writing in places. Stuff like "This is where her life ended, so this is where we begin" and "You come into this world with a name, so you should have one when you leave." or something crappy like that.. uggggg, horrible.

plus they are not cops but then they seems to show up and call into the police station ALL the time like they are cops. Then they get pushed around by people they talk too, being they are not cops, but then they interview a suspect and hit would be crime scenes almost like they are the police.

I get the idea is that Christian Slater's character use to be a police officer (maybe, I was half watching that part) but it just makes for a show with a lack of direction.

As in see Slater walk over, talk to someone... then.... call the cops.. Repeat for every single event or bit if info they found. Yawn..

but I'll catch another ep or two. I like to give a show a chance.

It was much better than I thought it would be. Some critics were not kind and I almost didn't watch.
And it was way better than that fiasco Slater did last season.

I agree about the Cold Case and WOAT feel.

I did actually laugh out loud when the Telephone guy pulled down his sun visor and there was a picture of himself and Andy Sipowiz. Bobby Simone wanna be.

I flipped back and forth between this one and "The Good Wife". It didn't seem like anything special. Slater was okay, but I didn't really like any of the other characters.

This is so generic. Just like the 1.000 other crime dramas on right now. Pass

I couldn't figure out why
Spoiler:
the chick who did the killing approached them in the first place to volunteer information
.

Other than that lapse in logic, I thought it was decent. I'll keep in on my DVR for when nothing else is on.

Re: The Forgotten -- New Series w/ Christian Slater -- "Pilot" -- 9/22/09

At the end of the episode when the "My name is..." voice-over started, I wondered if Jerry Bruckheimer was behind this show because it had that classic Jerry Bruckheimer feel to it. Not seconds later, up comes the Exec Producer credit and I had my answer.

All in all I liked the show (and really like the cast) and will be tuning in for more.

[Edit] Chuckd -- I totally agree. I thought the same thing.

I wanted to like it, but the voiceover stuff was crap. The show was just so bland. My DVR screwed up the second episode and I think that is a sign that I should bail.

I am sticking with it for now, I thought the second episode was better then the pilot, though I don't hold out much hope for it lasting the whole season...
