Smoove definitely made the season that year although I think Season 6 is one of Curb's best (Meet the Blacks, Anonymous Donor, Ida Funkhauser Roadside Memorial, Rat Dog are 4 of my favourite episodes).

Any episode with the Funkhousers is funny
I was cracking up when Larry was talking to his doctor and his boyfriend about being suprised one was gay, but couldn't believe the other was. It really showed how Gays get offended at anything these days when Larry is a known liberal and was just being honest. The doctors boyfriend thought he was talking to Archie Bunker!
Leon is classic in any scene he is in especially the whole bit about how hot the house should be. "I put that shit up to 82!!"
I think what breathed life into this show was Larry's breakup to Cheryl, and his essentially new life with new storylines. I think the show was about to jump the shark the last two seasons, but it made a turnaround the episode Cheryl left him.

Loved the season 7 opener! Jeff making faces and licking the glass at the dinner table with his wife at the opposite end no less was amazing. While it's obvious that the seeds have been planted for the premise of the Seinfeld reunion (i.e. to get back Cheryl), I was kind of hoping to see Larry's angst living the single life, especially since Loretta has cancer. I would enjoy seeing dating Larry trying to start from scratch winning over women on a string of bad first (and last) dates (ala Lucy Lawless and the female doctor whose note he couldn't read).
I/We can only hope that there's a scene where Leon rips Michael Richards a new one.

Another great line was Larry talking to Cheryl, "I can't even take Larry 24/7!" or something to that effect.

I thought this was an exceptionally strong start to season 7, classic CYE moments all the way through, and setting up plenty of plot points for the season arc.

That's good, but so is starting from the beginning. Having the series opener (not counting the special) titled 'The Pants Tent' pretty much sets the tone.
FYI, Comcast has all 6 seasons On Demand right now. It's well worth the price of HBO to catch up on all those.

Great return to the show, loved this episode. And to those wondering about past seasons, they are great. Leon who started up in Season 6, is the best addition to the show since Larry himself.

I thought this episode was hilarious.
Maybe it's just been awhile since I've seen Curb, but I forgot how much I like the Blacks and this entire episode just had me rolling.
Hey my dvr cut off at the end. What happened right after the doctor told Larry he wouldn't have time to golf?

The doctor proceeded to recite a list of symptoms and behavior changes that Larry could expect from Loretta (hair loss, depression, violent behavior, a host of others), going on and on as the camera stays on Larry's face growing more and more horrified. The doctor eventually repeats one of the symptoms and says "Did I say that one already?" over the fade to black.
