Re: The Jay Leno Show -- Premieres 9/14/09 -- 5 nights a week/46 weeks a year

Well, next Monday Jay faces CSI: Miami and Castle. I think he's a lock to finish 3rd right there.

I have never watched a TV series on CBS... there was never anything that interested me. In fact the only thing I ever watched on CBS is the Price is Right..

I guess now I will be watching Medium..

I have yet to watch CBS since they canceled Moonlight. Nothing this season is changing my mind either.

Those are fantastic ratings. We'll see if they hold. Even if they dropped to the 10 million - 12 million range, it's still much higher than nearly anything NBC has on the air anyway.

LOL, NBC is REALLY throwing Conan under the bus... just heard a commercial for Jay's new show, with the voice over slogan of "End your day with Jay" ... if I were Conan I'd be like "Ummmm..... hello?????"

It was pretty good, although i never watch the music or interviews, unless it's some iconic actor/director.

Yet they make a show in the summer (Harper's Island) that is 100% designed for your age group w/ Katie Cassidy and other young actors and had a beginning and an end and yet you refused to watch it because you still think it's an old people's network.

I think more than half the people in this forum who so badly want this show to fail aren't going to let go of the hatred.

Not really. It's the first show after a three-month break from a show that he's been doing for 17 years. He essentially has the same crew, the same band, the same writers. The set has changed, but what we saw last night was Leno's "Tonight Show" with a different name.

and is precisely why I hope it fails. I thought this new show was going to be completely different.. He should of stayed in the regular timeslot, or just retired.. Its not that I hate Leno, its just not the right time slot for this. Especially 5 nights a week.

Re: The Jay Leno Show -- Premieres 9/14/09 -- 5 nights a week/46 weeks a year

I didn't catch most of this (just a few minutes at the end) and I think they went the wrong angle by just rehashing The Tonight Show. Jay's a decent interviewer and I'd love to just basically see like a 5 minute opening bit (monologue sketch or otherwise) and then just devote the rest of the show to interviewing the two guests. It's a bit Tom Synder-esque but I think it would be a good way to distinguish the show.

Re: The Jay Leno Show -- Premieres 9/14/09 -- 5 nights a week/46 weeks a year

I don't know what people are looking for, as there really isn't anything new he can do. Yes, it is essentially the Tonight Show at 10:00 now, but that's all I was expecting.

Heck, I wish all the late night shows were on this time, cause I fall asleep by 11:30 anyway. Even though I have DVR, I never really watch them the next day. With all the crap on TV now, its something I enjoy at 10PM now.

Re: The Jay Leno Show -- Premieres 9/14/09 -- 5 nights a week/46 weeks a year

I finally watched Monday's show. I thought it was The Tonight Show with a different set. Since so many of us have DVRs, it's exactly the same. You fast forward to a couple bits you want to see and ignore the rest. I wouldn't put it on a Season Pass, but I'd watch it here and there, just like before.

I agree though that it kinda screws Conan. Seriously, how many people want to watch an hour of Leno followed by a half hour of news, then another hour of basically the same thing? I think people will choose one or the other and unfortunately for Conan, Leno has years of devoted followers.

I watch Conan, Ferguson, Letterman, and sometimes Kimmel. Fallon isn't worth the time, and I'll give this a shot, but since I didn't watch the old Tonight Show, I doubt I'll end up watching this one, either.

I think NBC is spitting in Conan's face (especially given some of the ads), though I wonder what effect it would have had for Jay to head over to ABC?

They are all must better than Leno. That is except Joe McCale of The Soup.

They took another shot at Conan tonight. Jay was visiting families or something and he was doing stuff with a baby. Jay was gonna put the baby to bed and asked if there was anything he should know while doing this. The parents said that the baby was scared of Conan and then showed a clip of the father holding the baby and playing a bit of Conan doing something on screen. The baby looked at the tv and then started crying.

This is exactly what I thought. I know this is a cost cutting measure for NBC, but for the premiere you would think they would do something to make it special other than getting "big" guests. Frankly the guests weren't that great anyway, West's newsworthy appearance aside. Everything else seemed like standard Tonight Show fair. For the regular show to be like that is fine, if disappointing, but for a premiere it's incomprehensible.

PS. While I'm not a regular late night watcher, I'm also not a Leno hater.

I thought Jim Norton was pretty funny on the second episode.

Glad to see the huge numbers for Leno and I enjoyed the show last night except for the lame/boring theme song. They will obviously decrease from this premiere, but I have a feeling he will hold at a nice, steady number.
We'll see what happens next week when new shows are up against it on ABC and CBS.

It's basically the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They should have renamed Conan's show to something else. Actually, I'm of the opinion that Carson should have taken the title "The Tonight Show" with him when he left.

I'm hoping it bombs. Can't stand Leno - He ripped off 'headlines' from Letterman's 'small town news', 'Jay walking' from Stern's 'homeless/stripper game', and even his interviews are plotted out ahead of time to remove all spontaneity.

Leno will get trounced ... and NBC won't care, because his show is so much cheaper to produce than scripted or even reality programming would be. The question isn't whether Leno can beat CSI (he can't and everyone knows it); the question is whether Leno's show is more profitable for NBC than would be Medium (for example).
