Adios to Ashley and that stupid tuxedo t-shirt she always wore in the interview segments.

A few episodes ago I was sure Jen was headed to a three-way with the Voltaggio brothers, but she lost it for a while. Glad she got it back.

Padma looked hot in the green pants.

I liked Ash but she deserved to go. She was never really able to execute her ideas well.

Did anyone catch Iron Chef America last night on the Food Network? It was a battle from 2006 that pitted Mario Batalli against Richard Blais(Eli was there as a sous chef for Blais). Batalli won, but Blais certainly didn't embarrass himself.

So Ash finally goes home. His pork tenderloin looked like a piece of spam.

Today's episode made it really clear who the top four will most likely be, barring some major screwup.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I can see one of them screwing up at some point, but no other competitor is getting anywhere near the level those guys are at.

Robin and Laurine should be next to go in theory Eli might stay a little longer.

Hasn't Restaurant Wars taken out some pretty decent chefs in the past? I know Tre was taken out in season 3. I have a feeling Jen will be a leader on whichever team she's on. Hopefully her team doesn't screw her.

Anyone else feel like this is the best season of TC yet? The chef's seem to be the best group assembled and even though most of the challenges are rehashed from prior years they still feel fresh.

edit: And Padma's pregnant

I would agree... Plus there is a lot less "Im a fucking genius" type douchebaggery around this time. The top guys seem to realize it as a craft and I tend to like that a lot more. The quicker Micheal goes the better though.

also, just cause this is always hilarious...

The Eater blog on top chef:

http://sf.eater.com/archives/2009/10...other.php#more

that's from this past week. But check out this line from the previous week:

Quote:
Ash and Michael are paired and Ash basically put a tiny saddle on Michael's junk he is riding him so hard. "Michael is the most genius correct cook I've ever met. He is a savage monster, a sexy beast, and the best thing to happen to cooking since fire."

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I do think this has a better selection of chefs that standout. i.e.
there are 4 that could easily win this whole thing, and that are head and shoulders above
normally there are 2 that are clear early on.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

Kevin and Jennifer came close - Too close for my liking.

Laurine was the sacrificial lamb in all of this. She didn't have a lot to add in general, so not much of a loss, but Jeebus Robin survives another week.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I was disappointed with the episode. Usually restaurant wars is 3 on 3 and they have much more do to with designing and furnishing the place on top of cooking. They made it too easy. I agree with who got sent home though.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

You could tell that all of these restaurant professionals had been out of that world for so long during this competition and were just unable to kick it back into gear. Hustling to plate a few portions is nothing compared with a full-on dinner service onslaught. And Laurine was obviously going to be the one to get the boot based on past performance. I felt bad that she had to take the fall when it was really Kevin and Jennifer who screwed up the most.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

It bothers me a bit that they know who made what as they are tasting it - that has to color how they judge the dishes real time(based on either conscious or subconscious expectations). While they probably can guess by style and have to know eventually in order to vote someone out, it would be nice if there was more of a blind element to the tasting (especially in a challenge like restaurant wars where that should be easier).

It seems like they made the right choice, but they also could have just as easily booted Jen based on their comments.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I'm wondering if the 4 best (in my mind) Kevin, Jen, Volt bros. can survive to the end. The false confidence Robin is getting is a bad thing, she was lucky she was on that team or she would have suffered Laurine's fate.

Jen dodged a bullet, but the judges realize she's one of the top talents and padded their judging accordingly.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I think those 4 will make it to the end unless something catastrophic happens. All of the judges' comments pretty much suggested that they don't think much of the other contestants, especially Michael, who seems to get the "It was ok, It didn't wow me" comment at every single competition.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

The tag team Quickfire Challenge was cool. Both teams seemed to do pretty well.

I'm glad they ditched the "decor" part of Restaurant Wars. Let the chefs concentrate on the menu and cooking.

Oh, and we need more footage of Jen in a bikini.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I think they are setting it up to have the bros. and some wildcard (Micheal or Robin) to be the final 3 at the end... You can already see they are beginning to "turn" on Kevin and Jenn, so it wouldnt surprise me.
