Yeah...she keeps screwing up. Doubt she'll be around much longer.

^^ This.

It was her voice, IMO. Total baby-talker. Not attractive when coming from a 40(?) year old. Or she could have been extremely quiet and just nervous, but that doesn't take away from her annoyance.

They showed very little of Mike this episode. I think he'll be around for a while so they are trying to tone it down with him right now so he won't get on the audience's nerves too quick.

I’m not gay so maybe I'm not supposed to have an opinion about this but the lesbian chick was really getting on my nerves whining about gay marriage. Jesus, woman, just cook. I could see not wanting to cook for a "Yes on Prop 8" rally, but this was just silly. Is she going to refuse to allow married people to eat in her restaurant too? She's one of the reasons the "vast gay agenda" keeps shooting itself in the foot.

I was telling my friend much the same thing when I got around to watching this tonight.

It's food. It's a 'customer' and it's a cooking competition. Just cook. If that bitch had a restaurant, would she turn them away if they were customers and wanted to have their rehearsal dinner at her business because they're straight and they can get married and she can't? It was absolute drama-queen bullshit that had nothing to do with being a chef, food, or even the context of the show. And frankly, I'm surprised that other chefs went along with it and let it go. There have been been a ton of GLB contestants (no T's, right?) and several 'bachelor/bridal party' challenges throughout the 5 seasons, no one else had any problems with it, nor should they. I'm disappointed they wasted almost 10 minutes of show-time on that whiny bullshit.

During the first quickfire, i just thought she was wearing HUGE hoop earrings. Then we saw another angle, and i was like "Damn, those are gauges?" I've never understood the desire for those huge gauges. Imagine what it looks like when those are taken out?

It used to be that if you had tattoo sleeves, neck tattoos, etc. you were basically removing yourself from the job force and limiting yourself to being a musician or artist. Guess you can add "chef" to that list now. Damn, there's a lot of tattoos.

If you've got tattoos and a faux hawk, you were MADE for Top Chef.

I agree, but she did suck it up and was shown a few minutes later talking about how she was happy those two had found happiness and was happy to cook for them.

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

Thanks for that blog link, BDB. Pretty Damn Funny. Here's what was said about the Gay Marriage thing.

Quote:
And Ashley, boy is she fired up. She is gay, as are a number of competitors, and she is very uncomfortable cooking for a patriarchy party when she and so many people she knows can't partake. Alright, a couple things. First off, fair enough, Ashley. It's ridiculous you and your partner don't have the same rights as a married couple! I am sorry. But remember that you and your partner are welcome to have a bachelorette party. They are stupid and there is no law saying you aren't allowed to walk around Second Avenue wearing fake tiaras and making strangers take pictures with you so you can win a terrible scavenger hunt or whatever. Secondly, do you get mad when you are asked to cater a bar mitzvah because you are not a 13 year old Jewish boy? Finally, this is a reality show about cooking. You should be mailing flyers out and trying to get legislation passed if you are so mad, and not drinking beers on TV and trying to win a Poker Chip with Gail Simmons' face on it so that you can use an extra lobster in the Elimination Challenge.

As I type this I'm down in my dark basement wearing a black cape and working on the "vast gay agenda".

Voicing her opinion once would be fine but she did go on and on. Glad she finally dropped it and got to cookin'! Another poster is correct. One of the seasons did have a gay wedding.

Good season so far, but it is sure hard to tell the men from the women this season. I mean no offense, but even the women that are not gay look like men.

They sure to seem to be pushing the brother angle... I wonder if they'll go far in the competition? While a nice story angle, the cuts back and forth anytime something positive or negative said about one to see the other's reaction is already starting to get old.

Preeti gone. Good episode.

Jen Rocked the entire thing as exec chef. totally controlled it, I think it would have been a nightmare with who was cooking what when if she wasn't there.

Quickfire was good, Potatoes - simple. Ash got lucky when he said it was custard. Hilarious stuff there.

Oh and the blog this week.. Genius

Not surprised to see Preeti go. I think she really needs to re-examine her taste pallette.

I'm sure my opinion will change, but so far Jen has been a real standout. Really liked the way she was cool under pressure and managed that kitchen.

Jen has been excellent thus far, as have Michael (one of the brothers, not the Ed Hardy wearing vinegar bag) and, for the most part, Kevin. There looks to be some real talent this season.

My only issue with Jen is the fact that its obvious she works with Eric Ripert... Not that thats bad by any means, but I hope she steps out of the same stuff and does some different things, I can usually name her menu off the bat.

Harsh comments from the judges this time round. Deserved. Mike's shrimp just looked gross and uncooked.

And seeing Mike having to come back was hilarious, but how did they all come up with the decision to have him come back so quickly if they didn't even know what he did for the dish... The editing of the show can be terrible at times.

What do you mean? They asked both Mike's what they did and shrimp Mike said that the bacon dish was basically all the other Mike's.. That he decided to make the shrimp salad (which sucked).. So that's why he was brought back in..

Was hilarious they made him come back..

Re: Top Chef Vegas - starts 19 Aug

I think what conscience is referring to is that according to the way it was shown (as opposed to what really happened) going into judge's table, they clearly found the bacon dish good enough to call in that team as one of the winners, irrespective of the shrimp dish, ie they didn't know who did what, they knew that team was responsible for the shrimp dish but still called them in as winners. They then found out at judge's table how the labor was divided, and one would think that they would have had to have had some discussion about not letting Mike off the hook when calling in the losers.

I generally think the editing is decent and this didn't bother me, but given that in theory they didn't know about the division of labor until they spoke to the chefs at judge's table, they would have had to do some discussion about the shrimp dish before asking Mike to come in with the losers group.

I'm just glad she got off her soap box. Being gay myself I can understand her feelings....but this is a contest and as others have mentioned, there was a gay weddnig in season one.

haha, I remember that couple. They made the chefs cater the party on one day's notice for like 200 people and no money and they expected miracles. The couple looked really pissed off but too bad!
